This was Hogan's return after a horrible accident nearly ended his career as a golfer. He hobbled the entire day in pain. His bandaged legs underneath his trousers almost failed him a few times as spectators watched him lose his balance but catch himself before he fell. Today there is a plaque at that spot commemorating the shot that won him the tournament and showed the world he was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course.
