I think it's the proper method for firing the right side. I think the distance-feel thing was using a softball and an under-arm throw. But I may be wrong.

I think he's demonstrating getting a feel for when you're short of the green. The theory is that if you throw a ball to someone 15 yds away, you will be close. Your aim could be off, but you don't throw it 30 yds past them. You should get that same feel when you chip or even when you putt.hrow it 30 yds past them. I think its how the right side should work in the golf swing. Mr. Hogan didnt tell us to hold our head still, tuck in the right arm, stay behind the ball. He said "throw it!! Hard!!!"
