The Kolf, which literally mean club was played in the game called Kolven. This club was not used to play the game of golf, but rather kolven, which is a ball and stick game which is played entirely above ground. Many scholars believe that golf originated from kolven (which was a game played by the Dutch). The idea is that kolven was brought to Scotland prior to or in the early 1400's via Dutch trading ships into the port of Edinburgh. The game then gradually transformed into what we now know as golf.

The shape of this club is interesting because it is literally two clubs in one. You would hit longer shots with the side of the face you see in the photo and shorter shots with the curvature of the toe, which generally had more loft.
