McIlroy tears ankle ligament; Open in doubt By Ryan Lavner, July 6, 2015, 6:30 am Rory McIlroy is almost certain to miss next week’s Open Championship after announcing Monday that he has a “total rupture” of a ligament in his left ankle. McIlroy, who was scheduled to play in this week’s Scottish Open, said on Instagram that he injured his ankle while playing soccer with friends on Saturday. Hopefully no surgery will be involved and he will be back for the PGA.

What a blow for him and the tournament. I honestly feel like McIlroy was a lock to win next week as long as he putted halfway decently. The Old Course is the perfect setup for him and there's no one better suited to win there than Rory. Hopefully it won't keep him out of the PGA and the Scottish and Open are all he misses. He's good for the game, and this is going to make us wait longer for a Spieth-McIlroy major duel, which is a shame.

What a blow for him and the tournament. I honestly feel like McIlroy was a lock to win next week as long as he putted halfway decently. The Old Course is the perfect setup for him and there's no one better suited to win there than Rory. Hopefully it won't keep him out of the PGA and the Scottish and Open are all he misses. He's good for the game, and this is going to make us wait longer for a Spieth-McIlroy major duel, which is a shame. Agree. I think this one would have been #5. One less in Spieth's way in his march to the Slam.

I can't believe it! Accidents happen, but I played soccer in HS and for a few years after college and I know it is an injury prone sport. Sorry to hear that.

That is really to bad. I think it would have come down to a Jordan/Rory battle. (Well maybe). Frankly after seeing Speith at Chambers Bay, I think he proved he is a strong links player and he is going to excel at the Old Course.

Rory McIlroy is almost certain to miss next week’s Open Championship after announcing Monday that he has a “total rupture” of a ligament in his left ankle.
