Got a short golf trip planned for the Houston area coming up. We are planning on doing Tour 18 the first day. What other good but not stupid expensive course is worth trying out. I've played the three bear creek courses a couple years ago and also Pine Crest once. It would be on a Friday morning so of course the weekend prices would be in effect. And we are sleeping at a buddies house in Baytown TX so would like to play somewhere on that side of Houston before driving back to Louisiana after playing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Black Horse has 2 18 hole courses and both are very nice. I wouldn't call it stupid expensive but then again I don't know what your threshold is. That being said, Houston Golf Club (formerly Redstone) hosts the Shell Houston Open each year and is open to the public at probably $150. Wildcat also has 2 18 hole courses, the Highlands and the Lakes course. Haven't played it but I've heard from a few people on this site that Memorial Park is a great value for the quality.

First of all, play with Daniel. You will have a blast either way!

I played Tour 18 with Daniel and we played Memorial Park. They are must plays. I enjoyed Cypresswood Tradition course, which is close to Tour 18. Wildcat is great but a little more$$. Houston Golf club is big bucks. Cypress Lakes was a fun course with a decent layout.

Play with Daniel. Did we mention that???

Daniel, I noticed Tour 18 in Houston didn't make your list. I'm curious. Are they not keeping it up? Over priced?

Let me know when you're coming to Houston and I'll join you if you like. Others have offered lots of great courses. Depending on your goals, you may want to select courses that offer a better chance to have a good time. I love the Golf Club of Houston but it's pretty pricy particularly when you add the caddy fee ($10) and the caddy (recommended $25/person) to the green fee.

Memorial Park and Hermann Park are two great courses and very playable. Cypress Lakes usually has the fastest greens in Houston; like putting on linoleum. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
