Going to Phoenix, Chandler, Tuscon for two weeks the last weekend of March and into April. Not wealthy but want a challenge. Can't think of a better place to get some good input on three courses to try. Two in the Phoenix Metro area and one down by Tuscon.

I have been told for the money Palm Valley in Goodyear AZ is a very good course. Have also been told to try Ocotillo in Chandler, but frankly it looks like a lot of water. I get enough of that here in Washington, even in places it should not be on the course. Also been told that Bear Creek and Lone Tree are worth a try in Chandler. There are about 200 courses in the Phoenix area so I am really befuddled which to try out. Would love to try the Troon courses but price wise those are well above my means, and of course who wouldn't want to try the stadium course. It is booked already and pricey.

Dave, you need to message Jerry (ToTheTop777); he lives right in the area you are going and has played every one of those courses. I have played 4 rounds with Jerry when I fly to Phoenix and he always gets us out to some great courses. His local knowledge is top notch. I'm playing with him out there 2 weeks from today. We are playing Talking Stick. He will help you find a great bargain out there. AZ golf never disappoints!

Forget Ocotillo - water on every hole. Everything will be pricey at that time of the year. Try Gold Canyon resort. Two courses both are excellent.

Southern Dunes, ASU Karsten, Raven South Mountain, Gold Canyon Dinosaur (one of my favorites)

On the more expensive side, Troon North, PGA Stadium, The Boulders

Scratch PGA Stadium (overpriced and just ok) ASU as well. Southern Dunes is a treat as well as Gold Canyon. Raven South Mountain will give you a feel of not being in the desert or Phoenix.

No We-Ko-Pa? Quintero? Top 2 in the state for the public. SunRidge Canyon? Many great courses here. Many a bit over-priced right now as well.

The man knows what he speaks! I have played some awesome golf with Jerry and you can't find a bad course out there. 9 more days and we tee it up at Talking Stick. Should be another great day of golf. I thought Las Sendas was a real nice surprise and the rate was rather good. We Ko Pa is at another level!!

YES! Great golf; great company; great buffet! Then I jump on a plane for 3 hours for cold and snow. Leave it to me to find a way to get great golf and weather into a Jan arctic trip. LOL

Got Jerry's message to me and man am I getting excited. Just and FYI I want to know I am golfing in the desert. We are so 180 from that up here I want the experience. Even the occasional side winder would not bother me. Well, maybe that is over stepping it a bit, but the occasional road runner would be super.

We will definately be talking.

I will take you to a desert course no problem. Affordable greats are Raven Verrado, 500 Club, Golf Club at Estrella. All are nearby and quite fun to play with some great views and conditions. Bring some smoked Salmon skin and the Roadrunners will appreciate you. LOL. Come on over Dave and enjoy AZ!

Friend request sent. We'll chat about the courses here in Tucson. I've played them all except the most of the private courses. You can check on EZLinks.com and GolfNow.com for many good deals. If you spend time playing the Tucson City Golf municipal courses, my favorite is Del Urich. But there are many other choices in town to beat the munis. The recently opened Sewailo was quite an interesting track but it has water features on 15 holes. I would suggest Dove Mountain (at Ritz-Carlton of Accenture fame), Pusche Ridge (in Saddlebrooke), Arizona National, and tops is Omni Tucson National (former Tucson Open)
