I hear it's pretty hard to beat Royal Dornoch.

My favorites:
East Coast: Musselburgh Links: hosted 6 Opens prior to 1889. Its a 9 hole course (always has been even when it hosted the British Open. Its like traveling back in time and its the oldest golf course in existence. It is the cheapest to play at $40 per 18! North Berwick: this course should have hosted the British Open. Its amazing, historic and famous. It is Scotland's version of Pebble Beach with amazing holes and views to die for. West Coast Prestwick: It hosted the first 13 Open Championships and is no longer part of the Rota. It is awesome with unique holes unlike any other with names that scare the average golfer. Macrihanish: it is said that the first hole was designed by God...enough said. Shishkine Links: If you like unique this one is for you. Try this on for size...its on an island off the West Coast of Scotland and the only way to get there is by boat. Then when you get there its a 12 hole course. Why is 12 holes cool? Because golf wasn't always an 18 hole round. As a matter of fact the first 13 years of the British Open the tournament was played at Prestwick which back then had 12 holes. Hope that helped. |

I've heard Kinsbarns and Royal Aberdeen are top of the line.

Kingsbarns has to be at the top of the list. It's the most beautiful golf course I've ever seen. Royal Aberdeen is top shelf and one of the boys that was at St. Andrews played Trump International and called it the best course in the world, and that guy's played Augusta.
I'd play Musselburgh too like LL says, just for the history of it. It's the oldest golf course in the world. |
