With Phil winning The Open, and none of the "young guns", as the Golf Channel talking heads were pumping up to be the next dominate players, is The Open Championship proving to be a tournament favoring the more experienced players?

Secondly, were are these "young guns"? Rory, Fowler, and the others are not living up to the talking heads expectations.

Going back to Tiger's consecutive wins in 05 and 06, every player who's won this tournament since has been someone who's been a veteran grinder with the exception of Oosthuizen. It takes a lot more patience to play links golf, and I think that's something the older guys have that younger players lack. And especially with Americans, it's not as glamorous as it is over here. It's not lush green, the weather is hardly ever ideal, and it's completely different types of golf. Definitely have to give the upper hand to the older guys in this championship.

I agree Ethan. Patience and experience are definite advantages. It would have been nice to see the Mechanic hang in there but it is a great win for Phil.

Im not even sure who the Young Guns are anymore. They seem to come and go and Fowler seems to be a One hit wonder. Rrory cant make a cut. I think Jordan Spieth is the next one to watch. Hope the bright lights dont burn him out too.

History has shown that major winners tend to be players with experience and maturity (playing maturity)...and doesn't that make sense???

As far as the 'young guns', doesn't the media generally create high expectations that are almost never met? It's what they do. Sells copy. Most of the sports media jump on and off bandwagons more often than the band.

Steady Eddies will prevail over time with the new group. Haas and Simpson.
