1. My brother and I play at various courses in our area eight to ten times per month. Over the last two months, we began a sociological study that focuses on the habits down demographic lines. We have discovered two virtually immutable truths:
a. Groups of senior age men and all groups of women will not let us play through. On virtually every hole, they will peer back into the fairway hoping we have dissipated into the air. Why do you all do that?

2. I belong to a country club and once school is recessed for summer, mom and dad drop their children off at the club before work and pick them up after work. A golf club is not an appropriate substitute for day care or camp. The clun employees, in effect, become babysitters. Why do you parents think this behavior is acceptable?

3. If you cannot shoot 82 or better on a consistent basis, don't play the back tees. There are too many guys who can't break 100 from the men's tees playing from the championship tees.

4. For those of you to whom this question applies, why do you play so slow?

5. I am offering classes for those of you who still have not learned to tell time. You have five minutes to search for a ball.

1. Not my experience.
2. Why does your country club allow/encourage this?

Drew,
I was going to respond, however I thought it more appropriate to ask you to re-evaluate your thoughts. Your comments have not been my experience, quite to the contrary. Have you taken a moment to ask yourself why your thoughts may be so?

Half of those I've never experienced, the other half are on Lewis' slow play thread, as Mark mentioned.

I think that because that has been my experience since I first started playing. My club is not the only babysitting service club in my area. Maybe it is a regional anomaly. I am actually doing a study on two of these topics. I live in the south, how about you? I also live in a city with lots of old south money and no shortage of people with a sense of entitlement. Also, see my edited original post. My computer had a spasm last night.

1 - Have not found that to be true of me when playing alone however if I am in the 3 or 4 some then it is a tossup.
2 - CC does not equate to day care or camp however if the child is mature enough to behave themselves and play with proper speed and etiquette then I say let them play.
3 - I agree 100%. When I first started playing I had no idea what the difference was from the front to the back tees other than distance. I really did not think of the round in terms of time based on difficulty until someone explained it to me. From there I played the forward tees until my handicap started dropping then I moved accordingly.
4 - I do not play slow and I enjoy playing with those who play fast as well. I have found it just as easy to shoot 80 in 2 hours and 30 mins as well as 5 hours.
5 - Ball Hawkers - Not a fan. If you are so worried about losing a ball then maybe two things should happen....quit playing or play cheap balls that you do not mind losing.

some broad generalizations there, buddy
1: some people just have a sense of entitlement and don't have common courtesy. if you've ever driven a car, you should know this
2: many clubs in my area offer camps for young golfers
3. I've never broken 90 and I'll play from the back depending on the rating and distance. Sometimes it keeps you from reaching trouble. You'd have to know the course though. I don't play slow. Slow play is caused by slow players.
