Anyone from the Midlothian, VA. or surrounding area going down to Myrtle Beach to participate in the World Armature Handicap Tournament the last week of August?

I'm playing for my fourth year in a row. Not from VA but I'm in the Philly area. I have a friend in southern DE that will also be playing.

It's a great time and you'll make a lot of new friends that you'll see year after year.

I played three years in a row then had to miss last year. Going back again this year. Lots of fun, great people from all the country and the world. I live in NH and also have a place in Myrtle, so I have played at quite a few of the courses that they play. Not a bad course among them.

Quick question, I'm trying to finalize my application for the World Am, and it's asking for my golf club chair person. I see here on this site my chair person is Ron L. (Florence Area #295). But the application asks for his name and contact info. I can't find that. I have already messaged him through here, but it doesn't look like he's been on in a while. Any ideas about how I can get this info I need to submit my handicap info?!

Ahhh. and there in lies the problem with clubs on this site. For the most part they are not active at all. The person that is the chairman probably started the club with hopes of having an active club, but that's a pretty rare thing on this site. My guess would be that the chairman started the club and has long since moved on. My suggestion to you is to contact GreenReader and tell him your situation that you mentioned above. "Maybe" he can give you additional contact info for the chairman. If you can't get that, then you will most likely have to get a handicap at your local course. That's what I did my first year playing the World Am because the club I was originally in was lacking in participation so I carried a handicap in 2 clubs at the same time. I have since taken over my local club on this site with another member in the Philly area and we are one of VERY few active clubs on this site. When I say active I mean a club that actually has events throughout the year which is a requirement for any club to be compliant.

Good Luck!

I just talked to Jeff at the World Am. and told him I was having similar problem contacting my Club Chair. He said to put in his screen name and handicap ID number and that will suffice and if they need to contact him they will go through the US Handicap site. Hope this helps.

It is my first year as well. I have been waiting all year for it and can’t wait. As long as I don’t get there and embarrass myself with terrible play.

I have been looking at this year’s registered players and there are indeed people coming from ALL over the world to play in this even. Maybe some of us will end up playing together or at least at the same course.

I had the same situation a couple of you mentioned when I had to complete the questions from the Word Am. I'll play there for the first time this year and I'm really looking forward to it. I pretty much panicked when they asked for the contact info of the handicap chairman. It was then I realized that my club on this site was not USGA compliant. I fired off several "Respond Now" emails to support (forget calling. You'll never, never find a phone number) and they responded. No one else responded so it looks as if I'm going to be the new administrator.

My brother-in-law has played for ten years. We have a room booked at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center so it will be:

a. Golf
b. 19th hole
c. elevator ride to room
d. sleep
e. more golf

Can't wait.
