For fun...

I want to take a vote of how many of you posters on this site SUPPORT the anchored putting ban to those who APPOSE the ban.

The article on Golf.com says judgment day is this Tuesday!

You answer is much appreciated,

Below please answer "I appose" or "I support"

Feel free to leave your reasons why if you may wish.

Thanks in advance for your response

I appose!!!!!

I believe it is something that has been a rule for too long to all of a sudden take away. It's like letting your kids stay up till 10PM till their 18 then tell them they have to be in bed by 8:30 when they turn 19. See how that one works out for you.

I support the anchoring ban for no other reason in that I do not use a broom or belly putter. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other what the final rulling will be.

I support, it is not a traditional golf swing, or a swinging of the club in the spirit of the rules of golf. 14-1b only clarifies that.

I think they will ban them. Personally doesn't matter to me. I use a short 3-ball Oddysey. I do think it has gone on to long for them to do anything about now without it having a backlash. If they do that then every win that anyone has ever had with one will be like Bonds, Sosa and McGwires HR's. Will have to put an * beside them.

It's "Oppose" meaning opposite... "Appose" means side by side..but whatever...

1. It's not a legal swing.. look in the rule book...
2. It's just looks stupid.
3. I love Cool-whip...

3 has nothing to do with anything.. just a feeling.

I support the ban. I used to be a hot shot golfer as a younger man and gradually lost my swing as I aged and got the yips. Tried the long one for awhile and eventually tried the claw after seeing Mark C. doing it. It works! No need for an artificial aid like anchoring the putter. And I agree it looks stupid!

Players have been anchoring for years. It seems that anchoring the long putter has been what has created the controversy. In my opinion as long as the same technology/technique, short of illegal substances, is reasonably available to everyone it represents fair competition.

I don't see it as a problem either way. Seems if a guy using a long putter wins, it becomes an issue. But when a guy not using one wins, it isn't even an after thought.
I am not one for tracking stats, so I don't know the answer to this: but it doesn't seem to me that guys using the long putter are scoring any higher on the money list than the guys that don't. So for that reason I don't see it as an advantage.
Players using either type go through hot and cold streaks.
Next thing you know, someone will complain about me kicking their ass on the course because I'm a red head. .........Really ?......
Complainers are basically whiney losers. To me, the type of putter you decide to use against me is no more important than the color of your socks. Get over it !

Oppose, because it is an unprincipled, inconsistent proposal that creates a great deal of uncertainty for equipment manufacturers and players alike.

1. As someone else said, anchoring has been going on for many years with standard length putters as well as longer putters. This proposal also does not ban anchoring, only anchoring with longer than standard length putters.

2. The official reason for the ban is that the anchored stroke is not a traditional pendulum stroke. Neither are many of the strokes shown as permitted in the Infographic that accompanied the proposal. The same can be said of many putting styles and grips used today and in the past, but they are proposing to ban them.

3. Also, how you define tradition? Long putters have been used for nearly 40 years on tour, belly putters for a dozen years. The tradition of belly-putting is twice as long as, say, the tradition of the FedEx Cup.

Truth be told I think the ruling bodies came up with this convoluted proposal because they fear being held accountable for the losses sustained by the impacted equipment manufacturers and tour players (lawsuits). Also, because they aren''t willing to admit they've screwed up.

I'm in favor of the ban and do not think the USGA and R&A will make any changes to the original recommendation of banning anchoring.
