On the PGA Tour driving stats are based on fairways hit I believe. I am not sure the benefit of tracking this stat for an amateur.

On the PGA Tour driving stats are based on fairways hit I believe. I am not sure the benefit of tracking this stat for an amateur. I think every aspiring amateur should PRIMARILY be tracking fairways and greens. Forget scoring until you are hitting MOST fairways and at least half the greens. Otherwise you are just tracking luck. Everything depends on the quality of your lie in the rough or behind trees and your luck in recovering from there. So the "score" after you miss the fairway is totally random---and meaningless. Good golfers play it down the middle of the fairways and hit the greens from a good lie, no excuses except a poor golf swing if they miss. Learn to hit fairways and greens. Learn to swing on plane and make clean contact with an accelerating clubhead. That usually requires lessons and a fairly significant swing change. The total cost of a series of lessons is still FAR LESS than the cost of new clubs. Larry |
