My father died of lymphoma in 2003. Roughly a year before he died, we played our final round together at Bay Creek Resort on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The tone of the conversation that day was light-hearted. We did, however, briefly discuss his future, my mom's future without him and the importance of being an honorable man. He said a person's true quality comes to the fore when he or she plays golf. In all the rounds of golf I have played with strangers, clients, co-workers etc., I have learned my father's platitude is an immutably true axiom. Tiger cheated. He has always been my favorite player because of his achievements and he is my generation's Nicklaus. The fact that he didn't disqualify himself tells you everything you need to know about him, as hard as that is for me to say.

You are not alone, Drew. And your dad was a wise man.

First off condolences for the loss of your father. The honorable thing for Tiger to do would have been WD. However, He was assessed a two stroke penalty and he is focused on breaking that major record held by Jack. This also goes to show me that he hears the clock ticking and will take advantage of every opportunity (gift) that presents itself.

Yes, my condolences go out to your father's passing. But if Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off was to say one thing to Woods, it would be, "Pardon my French, but you're an asshole."

Drew, I too offer my condolences to you. My own Dad passed away in 2000 and I still miss him.

I was also disappointed in Tiger's lack of integrity. He's way too good a golfer to give children the bad example.

Respectfully,

SL

If tomorrow the rules changed and allowed you to tamp down spike marks in your line of putt, how many of you here reading this would do so? And how many of you here reading this would not, because it is not old school tradition?
If a new rule came out tomorrow that said that if your ball came to rest on tree root, or so close to a tree as to hinder your swing, (like it does when it ends up next to the viewing stands, ....and you get relief), that you get a club length relief no closer to the hole, ....how many of you here would take advantage of the new rule?
Rules are rules! Period.
The powers to be RULED on Tiger's situation. All you haters here need to just dummy up and except it and move on. You guys are starting to sound like Whiners.

Everybody has to play by the same rules. As a former mini-tour professional, I would be the first to say the rules of golf are convoluted, arcane, incongruent and just plain ridiculous. Tiger needs an image enhancement and this provided a perfect opportunity. Also, what the hell does dummy up mean? Oh, and in response to your boorish, vitriolic diatribe....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I will go back to it again Don Tiger admitted he dropped two yards behind where he was suppose to because he didn't like the lay of the grass. It was leaning back into him. It was this statement to the press by Tiger that made the rules committee look at it again. I agree with you that the matter is over and done with. The punishment was chosen and meted out. The question remains and will always remain as to Tigers integrity. No one is whining here, just expressing their opinions. I never can understand why people like you start calling names when others may disagree with you. This was a well placed and well voiced post and the one posting it honored a very wise man, his father. Maybe you are the whiner and the one that needs to get over it, and let everyone have their moment to state what they feel. As you have stated before, if you don't like it, don't read it.

Pappy, correct me if I am wrong but I believe that was stated about the drop area. As well as the wetness of it.

Don't be to disappointed in TW. He didn't cheat. The rules commity screwed up. They had over an hour to tell him to add a two shot penalty to his score. He didn't know, with todays technology they should have informed him of the penalty right after the 15th hole, NOT after he signed his card

Correct.

You are correct I mis-heard it, he was talking about the drop area. But also he didnt like the angle into the pin so he went back and dropped. But he did drop two yards back because he liked the lie better. Great reasoning bad results.
