Rory comes out and states "I don't care if I miss 10 cuts, if I could win 1 major a year".
Is Rory selling himself short now? Is that the right attitude to take to the game and be one of the top golfers in the world? Is this leading to his average play of late? You have to wonder. |

Obviously money is not an issue with him anymore. Plus I am sure the everyday journeyman PGA Tour pro would say the exact same thing. Just sounds a little strange coming from the kid who was number 1 in the world and foresees himself in that position in the future. Might also be that frustration with his swing is starting to affect the thought process from his brain to his mouth.

Deep down, I think McIlroy is dealing with some pressure issues. New contract with Nike, that's pressure right there from a major source, the worldwide speculation about his every move by everyone from Johnny Miller to Holly Sonders to you and me, all that has to take a toll on anyone, let alone a young man at the tender age of 23.
It will be interesting to see how he deals with it. I feel for him, I really do. SL |

It's one thing to say majors are everything (they are), but when you say you can miss 10 cuts and win a major and everything's all right, that's not good. I think it was someone on Golf Channel's website who said if you look at Tiger, he obviously judges himself by majors, but in regular events when he tees it up he wants to win just as badly as he would in one of the four big ones. I think McIlroy is just trying to say something like that, it just came out wrong. We've seen the emotion in him after winning Wells Fargo and Honda. Those weren't exactly passive celebrations.

Why even enter an event if you're not going to try your best to win it...
(it's a problem I have with a lot of players these days...lots of "filler" in the fields...so much money out there that you can make a comfortable living in 20th place all your life) |

Rory is a young lad that's running his mouth.to the media. Just giving them a story to write. I, think Rory, will win more golf tournaments and Majors. Rory, will be another Great Golfer. GO RORY!

I dont think that he has the drive to win after signing that big deal with Nike. He is guaranteed something around 20 mil per year for the next 10 years and with that much money coming in he doesnt have to win to make a living. He just has to show up and collect his endorsement checks. One word sums it up. COMPLACENCY! !

Just don't get it. It almost sounds selfish the way he stated it. If you were his sponsor, would that not raise a flag? Enter to win everything. Those are the players that should ultimately be Hall of Fame players. If Tiger made that comment whether he meant it or not? The media would be in a frenzy. I truly hope the kid wins soon. He needs to wake up. |

Well conveniently enough the day you post this, he shoots -5 and is in a great spot going to the weekend only 3 behind Horschel. Glad to see he's starting to get it figured out.

If that's his attitude I think he will limit his chances to win majors. Look at Tiger and Jack they wanted to win every tournament they play in. I also think back at last year's Masters when Rory and McIlroy were stinking it up...laughing and smiling rather than grinding out some kind of decent finish.
Many have the talent very few have the real drive to sacrifice. |

ANY PRO GOLFER WHO DOES THAT HAS NO BUSINESS WINNING A TOURNAMENT. WHAT AN UNFORGIVABLE ACT OR ACTS, BILLY HORSCHEL PUT FORTH ON THIS DAY. ;-) |

Great decision by McIlroy to play this week. Coming up in 2nd is better for him in what it means for next week, though. Winning twice in as many weeks is very tough (even though he did it in Boston and Indianapolis last year), especially when one is a major. I'm stating the obvious here, but his chances next week are certainly a lot better than they were a month ago. I like what Tothetop suggested though for next week. Anyone else wanna see this leaderboard going into next Sunday?
T1) Tiger Woods -12, 2:40PM T1) Phil Mickelson -12, 2:40PM T3) Rory McIlroy -11, 2:30PM T3) Keegan Bradley -11, 2:30PM T5) WHO CARES -4, 2:20PM |
