I used to live in Portland. Love Oregon!
Best golf in the United States is in Bandon, Oregon. Go to the Bandon Dunes website. There is great golf all over Oregon. I have already mentioned Bandon, there is Portland which has unbelievable private courses and some seriously great munis. Eastmoreland Golf in Portland is cheap and its a hidden treasure. Pumpkin Ridge is semi-private and has hosted a Women's US Open. Then you have great golf in Bend which is a great resort town. |

Just get a big enough house so you can have visitors.
Great, great golf for sure. It's just REALLY tough to get there. Bandon is far away from everything. Bend is a great golf area like LL stated. Pumpkin Ridge is where Tiger one his most dramatic US Amateur. |

Lived in Oregon for six years. You've got about 4 choices--all very different.
1. Coastal - From Astoria Golf & Country Club to Salmon Run in Brookings and of course the Bandon Dune courses in between there are some really fine courses along the coast. Problem is the weather. If you don't mind 50s to low 60s temps and drizzle, it's great. If you want sunshine and warm weather, look elsewhere. 2. Willamette Valley - This is what most people think of when they think of Oregon. It's also where most of the people in the state live. Over half the days receive rain, but guess what? Most of those days the rain ends by 10am. Plan on tee times after 11am and you'll get in some fantastic golf in lush surroundings. Connor already detailed some of the outstanding courses in this neck of Oregon. 3. High Desert - Most people would be surprised to learn that almost 2/3s of Oregon is desert. Think old westerns with tumbleweed, sage brush and rock faced mountain terrain and you've got a good picture of this region. Most of the population that is there resides along Hwy 97 from Bend through Klamath Falls. There are some fine courses like the Running Y Resort in Klamath Falls, but they tend to be few and far between. Still the arid climate makes for many sunny and clear days of golf. 4. Rogue Valley - Southern Oregon, Ashland to Medford has probably the best weather in the state. Warmer than the Williamette Valley and only 20 inches of rainfall per year. Several really fine golf courses like Centennial, Cedar Links and my favorite Stone Ridge are just a few fine courses in your back yard. You are also only an hour's drive to the Running Y Ranch Resort. |
