Regrets or second thoughts?!?

I am sure some of you saw the graphic on coverage of the Abu Dhabi event, and Rory's rounds from the year to last. His avg drive dist was down 10+ yards, his GIR was down, and number of putts were higher. When I stopped watching he was +5. Think he's having second thoughts at this point?!?

I realize an equipment change can take a while, even for players of Rory's caliber. I realize it is the first tournament w/ the new sticks & ball, but poor performances blamed on equipment could be a tough mental block. Especially since he really can't break his contract and go back to Titleist.

He got more money from them then he would ever make in golf winnings. take that over par right to the bank.

I don't think he has any regrets. I think he just made the change and it will take a month or two to adjust. I don't buy the equipment change issues.

I can't help but think that this may be a serious backfire for Nike...and free advertising for Titleist. If his game doesn't come back to where it was, whether you buy the equipment excuse or not, it won't take long for people to start saying, "Well, he was shooting these numbers when he was using Titleist equipment, and now look."

As bad as it looked, it was only the first tournament of the season. Lets see what happens after that drive down Magnolia Lane to see if there are any regrets.

It looked like he missed just as many putts with the Scotty the 2nd day.

This could take a while. I never understood why people said "This won't change a thing. These guys are too good to have equipment change their scores." WHAT? Look at Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk. # of official wins G-Mac has had since he switched from Callaway to Srixon/Cleveland: 0. # of wins Furyk has had since switching from Srixon/Cleveland to something (can't tell since he basically looks like a NASCAR driver with those gazillion sponsors on him): 0. It's too early to say that Nike is going to forever ruin McIlroy's game. It's one tournament, two rounds. But he'll need an adjustment period for sure.

Give it three or four tournaments and then you can see if he is going to play well with the new gear.

Its not the equipment. It never was or will be. Not when these players win with this equipment, and those players win with that equipment. Somebody will win, and their equipment won't be the reason, because next week they won't win, but somebody else with different equipment will win. And rory will win again, with his new equipment. And when he does, it won't be because of his equipment.
Dammit I'm smart ! Must be because I play Nike irons, Taylormade woods, and a Ping putter. .....and Titleist and Bridgestone balls. and use Walmart tees. ...and Foot Joy shoes.....and a Garmin gps...............................

So, if making a swing change takes 9 to 18 months for a pro to ingrain why wouldn't it take a little while to get used to changing every club in your bag?

Well I am certainly no professional but I can adjust within a couple of rounds. As a 2 handicap I am sure my expectations are a bit different.

But I saw the commercial where he can hit a water glass a couple hundred yards away with the Nike's.

Big deal. I broke a kitchen window from a couple of hundred yards. Almost like on Big Break

At their level and ours it's all about confidence. Sure he is confident about his new clubs thats what he has to tell himself to put positive thoughts and afirmations into his subconcious. Although until he has a great competitive round with his new clubs he won't fully trust them in competition. We all know sometimes it's easy on the range or in that regular round but put yourself on the same golf course for your club championship or trying to win that 5 dollar nassau it has the ability for doubt to creep in. I think he knows he can play well with these clubs but until he has evidence of that I think he will have an adjustment period.

Rory will win 10 PGA tournaments including the Grand Slam this year, and Nike will buy out Titleist before the start of the 2014 season ...

Unless he started swinging like Larry, Curly or Moe. Did he? If so, then cancel my prediction.
