Geez, Nike signed Rory, Watney and Stanley this year? Wonder how long the adjustment is gonna be. Big fan of all 3, and sad to see them abandon the titleist equipment they come up with. I can't blame them though, make the loot while you can.

I'm a big Red Sox fan, I always raised an eyebrow when other fans would get upset about a player leaving (i.e. J. Damon, or Papelbon) for more money. The fans always say, "How could they leave! I wouldn't take the money." I call BS on that noise. You'd be a fool for leaving millions on the table. It did hurt that Captain Caveman went to the Yankees tho

Nike signed a few other guys too, not all of which we know. They released this picture earlier this week. We know Watney, Stanley, and McIlroy occupy 3 of these faces. http://www.facebook.com/photo...

Seung-Yul Noh has gotten a lot of pub about maybe switching, and could be the one who has the car doors open in that pic. Not sure who the dude on the far right is. Some think it might be Thorbjorn Olesen.

Did Nike actually make the announcement as to Rory yet as I haven't seen anything posted on the golf sites (I assume it is a foregone conclusion). Money talks just look at the NHL. I do agree it is a shame that players leave an equipment company they have had success with for the big payoff but then again that is capitalism at work.

Well all these sponsorships by Nike hasn't induced me to use their equipment--and apparently that is the case for about 95% of golfers. According to all the public information I've found Nike's share of the golf equipment market has never topped 5%.

Just goes to show you how profitable their other product lines are. I demo'd their drivers and other clubs and to me was not comfortable. On the other hand I have friends who swear by the clubs.

"By" or "at"? I can't remember a time when Nike did well in a major independent club test.

That's fair. A square headed club that sounds like a walrus humping a donkey SHOULDN'T get a company more than 5% market share.

I hear ya', Racer. This is why I don't buy player jerseys, because if I had a Youk jersey, it would now only be good for a very expensive oil rag.

If you knew my friends it would be obvious the clubs were bought with the Tiger factor in mind.

You gotta get the players that have left, and people remember them fondly. I have a Mike Greenwell jersey, I loved him growing up, and I get plenty of comments on it as well.

Well once again I gotta put my $.02 in. For those who say Nike clubs are junk, I'd like to know exactly why they are junk compared to any other brand. Particularly their line of irons. And I know just like the other companies, they make several types of irons.
I gotta say, I have played Wilson irons in the old days. Callaway irons recently. And now Nike. I absolutely love my Nike irons. I have shot my best scores with them and hit my best shots with them. When I demo'd them, I also demo'd Callaway, Titleist, Mizuno. The Nike irons felt the best for my swing. I didn't buy them for their sales hype or popularity. They actually were the least expensive.
I gotta figure that these pros are making the switch for the money alone. And they are good enough players that they could win with most any brand. But if Nike were junk, I'm sure these same pros would be smart enough to steer clear.

Have no reason to doubt you. Just saying there aren't too many folks like that as evidenced by market share.

I have to agree.
There is something about the VR Pro Combos that I really liked and hit very well and that I was comfortable with. I hit the Nike and the Titleist on 3 separate test fittings and end up leaving with the Titleist AP712's. I truly believe that I chose the Titleist because of the brand name and not to mention that all my playing partners use them as well. I love my ap712 irons but am now thinking of purchasing the Nike irons.

No matter what the brand name is, if we learn how to swing correctly we can hit any club there is. The same goes with the pro's. They had a huge contract presented to them and they took it. Will it change there ability to play ? I hardly doubt it.

Greenwell lives right here in Ft Myers.. My Nike connection in North Carolina has informed me the Nike additions are as follows:
Nick Watney
Kyle Stanley
Rory McIlroy
Seung-yul Noh
David Duval (Returning to Nike)

Leaving is Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover

However, I do remember 2009 when Nike players won the US Open, the British Open, and a second at the PGA Championship.
