I have recently decided to travel as much as possible via AMTRAK. This mode works well for me. Only one drawback that I've found is: many of the routes are not "golf club friendly." I'm familiar with being able to ship via FEDEX, but I was wondering if anyone had a better suggestion -- one that may be a bit less expensive?

Yet another reason why trains have lost ridership.

Good Question... I'm really interested in the responses here. I haven't found a costly solution to this. The FedEx commercials we see each weekend don't tell you it is the equivalent cost of your first car.

I would highly recommend Luggage Forward. They are a very reputable and most importantly affordable means of luggage transport (including golf clubs). A much better alternative to FedEx or any of the major carriers we see everyday. These guys are a small outfit that specializes in luggage transportation aroudn the world. Since they have a very specialized focus, they are able to offer their servies at a much more affordable rate then most (we're not paying for the marketing costs associated with those fedex commericals we see). I've used them a few times and have never had any issues.

This is great. I just checked out the site. At least it's another option to look at. I have a nice business trip to Seattle planned soon and want to play Chambers Bay but can't bring sticks due to other travel I have that week.
I hate the idea of playing a premium course with rental sticks. I vowed never to do that. Much appreciated.

Thanks for all of the responses to my posting. I feel that I'm getting info from the Pros. I will definitely take your advice about Luggage Forward. New found savings present another avenue that generates "green fees."

Did I miss something??? I thought you were looking for something better than FedEx? This luggageforward is $99 EACH WAY and that is if you agree to be without your clubs for a week before you leave and a week after you get back. Want it quicker and you are easily looking at 4 big bills!

Wasn't a detail that I had found out yet, as I'm still doing some evening research on my next trip. Gonna look at the site in detail and speak with rep on tomorrow. Found out about another resource that organizers of World Am Tour in MB touts. May just boil to keeping a set of sticks in Atlanta.

I jumped on it yesterday and found a way to send the sticks from WA to FL one way for $89. That was the best I found so far. It really wasn't all the bad compared to FedEx and the others.

I think if you want round trip... it gets pricey.

I feel that unless I'm going to play more than once during a trip, I'll use the rentals. More than once is worth the shipping.

Even if I don't intend on playing when I travel, I pack a small bag of: Tees, Balls, markers, hats, shoes, gloves, towel, Ball-Zee and the like. You never know when you get the chance to play while away from home.

The last few years if chosen to drive to the LA area for annual business trips so that I can bring my clubs should I get a chance to play. I save the business $ on travel expenses and the total travel time is about the same from AZ.
