I've started playing golf the first week of Sept of 2011. After 1 year of playing at the age of 43, I've finally broke 80(with a 77). I've started out couldn't even hit the ball of the ground last year with a 138 score. I never have any type of lesson or intructor. I've push myself at the driving range and played 2 times a week. I also played many different courses around DFW area. Also got my 2nd trophy at my local club.
Is this possible???

Great job! Sounds like you were born to play golf. It is possible and let me tell you...you are not alone. Some people pick the game up really quickly. I started playing roughly 10 years ago, and while it took me more time to break 80 than it did for you I did it relatively quick.

When I first started playing golf I lived in Portland, Oregon and I was so embarrassed about how bad I was that I would go to the range every day after work and teach myself how to hit a golf ball. My first golf lesson came 3-4 years later after I had learned to break 80. Now I get lessons to fine tune the little parts of my game.

Congrats and keep up the great progress!

Congratulation !

Of course it's possible if you are athletic with good eye hand coordination with lots of practice plus playing time ; Lets see, twice a week will put you over 100 rounds in one year plus driving range , yes it's possible.
If you made this a full time commitment I don't see why not ? especially if you could get on a shorter course with lower slope rating.

In a matter of the fact, when I complained to my instructor years ago why I could not break 80 after playing the sport for 4 years, he told me to try it on a shorter easier course, just to break the mental barrier for getting lower than 80 the first time.

Thank you guys for all the encouragement. I don't know when will I'll be seeing 70's again anytime soon. I do played sport like football, baseball, soccer, volleyball and you name it! all my life, but never like golf until last year. My body can't handle any other physical sports, so golf was the answer last year.
Yes, I am the guy that honk the horn and yell "four" everytime I drove by the golf course. Now... I get it!

Congrats man. It's easier to do it again once you break the ice. The first time I did I shot the next 3 rounds in a row in the 70's with a even par 72 and a 73 on back to back days. It's funny how nerves can control a person.

Breaking 80 for the first time is a huge milestone!!!! Congrats!!!! This should take some pressure off of your game from here on out.

Great job!!! It is possible, if you work hard, which you have done. I stated playing in July 08' and broke 80 for the first time last year. I thought doing it in 3 years was impressive, but you've crushed that. But, in my fairness, I live in a cold weather state and can't play as much as I would like. :-)
