I used to have a 45" shaft in my Callaway driver, I have switched to a Titleist Driver with a 46" shaft and have gained about 20 yards on my Tee shots. However, I have worked on my swing and now swing the club correctly and now considering going back to 45" shaft. I am a small guy and feel that the longer shaft may be affecting my accuracy. Some days I can rip it straight down the middle and then the next day I am usually slicing the ball. Is there really that much difference in 1" ? Should I even consider going to a 44" shaft?

There is a relationship between driver length and control. However, when I see these petite LPGA and Future's Tour women swinging a 44 inch driver around their body and bombing it 260-270 yards I wonder what is the optimum length?

That would be a nice little study to put together. I am 6'2" and use a 45.5 inch shaft. I have a friend that just cut his driver down to 44 inches and he iis about 2 inches taller then me. I will see just how much his accuracy improves and how much distance changes.

I believe most tour players are going with a 44" inch shafted driver.

Armygrunt: I sure would like to now the results of your friends accuracy and distance with that cut down shaft.

I believe my driver shaft is 44" and I hit the ball fairly well. I had my shaft custom cut taking my pro's advice. He said that what you lose in length you get back by finding the sweet spot more often.

I play with a friend that hits a shorter shafted club, it would be like a 2 wood or a 3+. It not long but he keeps the thing in the short grass which is goal 1.

I am a small guy, ( 5' 7" at a 160 lbs) and I do not want to lose any distance. I have always had a long iron for my second shot to the green and never got on in regulation. Now that my swing has improved and my driver distance has increased, I have more short iron shot's to the green. I just can't seem to be accurate every time I hit my driver. I fear that going to a shorter length shaft, I will lose my distance again.
