In Pendleton, SC, there is a semi-private golf course that plays a modified stableford game every day. The only day it isn't there is on a Friday every now and then. This club is part of the AAG group in upstate SC (the traveling dogfight on Fridays goes between 6 of the 7 courses).

On Friday, Saturday and I believe on Sunday, too, there are skins. You get in the skins for 10 bucks. To get in the dogfight is 10 bucks, plus you pay for the usual green and cart fees.

Anybody can win on anyday. The dogfight consists of team and individual payout. Whatever your handicap, you have a good chance on a good day to win, even a normal day sometimes. I personally have to pull 20 points to earn surplus. 5 points surplus is usually a good chance at placing.

Here is the system:

Double Eagle 10 pts
Eagle 6 pts
Birdie 4 pts
Par 2 pts
Bogey 1 pt
Double Bogey 0 pts

There worst you can score on any hole is Double Bogey.

The only catch is the first time you play it, you can only earn 5 surplus points no matter how many you get (remember it is still a strong chance of placing just about everyday). After that, when hey make sure you are the handicap you say you are, they will cut you loose and you can earn as many as you can get. They have a score posting system for their handicap system, but they will enter it all in for you after they add it all up.

So, come on out and give yourself a chance to win. The more people, the more money if you place.

There are also some groups that run a rabbit on the Front 9, Back 9 and over all.

Example: 5-5-5 means 5 for the front, 5 for the back and 5 for the over all.

You must win the last hole of each outright to receive any money. You win the most holes and you win that 9, if you win the last hole outright. It is called a rabbit, since you can easily add a leg or two. Ties are not considered outright for any hole.

Example: Say you are on #9, and you and one other player are both putting for par. You both have one three holes. If you both make the putt, no one owes anyone anything. However, if you make and he misses, you will be getting 5 bucks from each player after the round.

So, if you are in a foursome and you win the front, back and over all 18, you win 45 bucks from the other 3 players. That plus the actual game, and if it is a weekend don't forget skins. So, that would be getting paid back for your round by those guys. Then you get surplus if you have a chance for anything else.

All this for about 40 - 48 for the round fees, 10 for the game and 10 for the skins. Skins can run up to any amount. Today happened to be 21 skins, and skins were split by the hole. If you won 3 holes my yourself, you would win 63 bucks.

So, if you can win 3 skins, plus winning the front, back and 18 for your group, there is 108 bucks in your pocket. You are getting paid to play pretty much, of course you gotta play your best and hope your partner plays well, too.
