I am in the market for new clubs. Obviously I will be testing and getting them fitted. But, with 2 feet of snow still on the ground I will be taking it slow. In the meantime any suggestions? I now have the Cobra S2s and come to think of it, I have always only played Cobra clubs. I think I will move on to a different manufacture this time. Thanks

The best thing you should do is top try several different Club brands to see which one fits your swing and your budget.

The best thing you should do is top try several different Club brands to see which one fits your swing and your budget. Yeah, I have a smooth, good tempoed swing. My swing tends to be on the slower side. Drives average about 225 and I gauge my iron yardage based on my 5 iron which I tend to hit between 150 to 155. Average score is 86 |

It was suggested that I buy Cobras a while ago and since I couldn't deal with the offset look I passed on them and bought Mizuno's that I liked. A few years later my Mizuno's were getting "old" (nothing wrong with them I just had some money to burn so I figured what the heck) so I ditched them for Callaways and hated them (shmuck that I was didn't bother to get fitted and then over the next year wondered why I was chunking the ball.) A year later I was fitted for ADAMS Idea Techs because that provided me the most distance based on the monitor but I don't like them either (here I switched from graphite to steel shafts which may have messed me up.) I guess what I am saying is do not buy unless you are fitted, check out all brands and with your distance and swing speed (which is just like mine even the distances) careful with your shaft as well. Have fun it is a purchase you don't mind shelling out some cash for. I wanted to change my clubs again this year but just spent $3700 on my Dachshunds back surgery so there goes my new clubs and golf trip to North Carolina. How is your Dachshund feeling, is he or she OK. I got a 5 yr old Mini-dachshund

I'm very happy with my Burner 09's. I hear the Burner 2.0 are really good. But I went through about a 1 1/2 hour fitting and hit a whole lot of different clubs.

Mizuno irons (you know you like em and they dont get carried away with changes.. maybe some sweet clevland wedges.. always hot! and then i would try a bunch of drivers with the new spin and distance and ball flight simulatiors.. get those extra yards.. fairway woods can often be exchanged for some long hitting highbreads and im not sure what i would start with.. Putter... go to the re-sale shop often and drag home all the 3 dollar putters you can find until you find one that puts the ball in the hole.. lol.. good luck sounds like fun ..

Ralph, it looks like you should be looking for something in the game improvement iron category. Taylormade Burner is in that category. But as others have said try a bunch of them and get fitted. The thing with the Burner irons you might like is you'll pick up some yardage. But again, try a variety of clubs.
You definitely should be able to pick up more yardage with a well fitted driver. You are already hitting your 5-iron 150 yards you should be able to hit driver 250 yards. I'm betting that with the right sticks you'll be able to shave 3 strokes off your handicap, maybe more. |

Talk to the Pro's at some clubs in your area, they may have a good deal on some clubs they personally used for a few rounds and will sell them to you at a big discount. I bought my Callaway FT's with graphite shafts that had a $1200 retail price new for $500. They were the Pro's personal set that he played 3 rounds with them! Hardly a scratch on them.
