HELP! Just curious to hear from everyone, if it is 'normal' when learning how to play golf, for one to be making good, steady progess in developing a consistent swing, and then all of a sudden, 'lose it?" By this I mean, for a 2 week period, I was improving and dropping my scores, but now, the last 2 weeks, something has changed in my swing and my results are moving southward! Should I expect this to happen from time to time?

Thanks for all input!

Welcome to my world. I struggled for 2 years to get my handicap under 10 and did, to an 8.8. Now it's ballooning faster than oil gushing from a well 5000 ft underwater. Currently at 11.6 with no fix, AAGGGGHHHH!

Totally common. It is a part of the golf cycle.

Dude, that is normal for someone who has played golf their entire life. Dont get down on yourself.

I have been playing for over 20 years, and look at my scores. They fluctuate more than the price of gas.

Stay committed and you will have days where you score great, and days where you score horrible.

The whole point to the game is to have fun, no matter what you shoot!

Think of it this way as compared to the pro's of the PGA tour. You see many pro's that will have a 4-6 week run, then they will fall apart and miss cuts left and right. Golf is a game of cycles. Don't beat yourself up over it. Take each time out as a learning experience even if your not hitting the ball that well--Best Wishes~~

I can dig all the retoric mumbo jumbo, 'caue it's true. But, I got tired of accepting it as "part of the "freakin" game." I've done two things that has greatly reduced this phenomenon.

1. Don't put your clubs up in the winter. Do whatcha gotta do, where you have to do it, but keep those clubs swinging all year.

2...Get help, whether from a book, DVD, or Pro. Make a plan that ends with you "owning" "YOUR" swing. Develop and practce until you actually have a swing that is "yours." Own, and stick to it through thick and thin once you have committedto trusting it.

yeap!! ths is my second year and worked all last year on fundamentals and swinging on plane; however, this year I'm fighting the same demons again. I finally said to myself stop everything then start over. I went to the range with the mind set of forget everything I'd ever known or thought I knew about my swing. Started with mechanics and worked my way up from a short (almost pitch shot) swing to full swing. I do also have a medicus driver to help me slow my tempo and get back on plane. I went from horrible low hooking and bananna slices to a smooth straight shots with a baby draw within 30 minutes. I also generated more club head speed with the new and improved swing; 95mph average swing speed with some swings 97 & 98 mph.
It'll come back, slow down and relax- is the best advice I have.
