As the current golf season comes to a close, we need to take a moment of remembrance and silence to those that have passed this year. We had high hopes for them and formed a partnership that we thought would serve us well but some just didn’t measure up and passed on, which gives us a heavy heart.

We started out with a unique bond with them, they giving us great joy and happiness at times and great sorrow on others. But still we loved them. We took care of them, washed them, kept them clean and warm, and held them with great care and caress, keeping them safe under sometimes harsh conditions. We gave them shade in the sun, and a warm pocket in the cold. We kept them dry from the rain and free from filth and they repaid us at times with obedience and grace, following the path we desired them to go toward.

They came from a large family, one of twelve brothers and are remembered by their brothers 1 - 4 and other friends and family whom were blessed to know them. They loved being outdoors and lying in the short grass, and liked playing rolling games on the green grass and falling into holes. It was a pleasure to see how much fun they had with us.

So it is with great sadness that we honor and remember those that passed this season:

1. Those that ran into the woods because they were curious, but got lost, never to return.

2. Those that fell into tall grass, never to be seen again.

3. Those that had to be put down because while they were playing, they cracked their head on the pavement or on a tree and could not play with their peers again.

4. Those that fell into the mud or in the sand and buried themselves only to suffocate and pass before our eyes.

5. And finally, those that fell into the water and drowned because they couldn't swim (This one especially gives us a heavy heart).

To Mr. Bridgestone, Mr. Titelist, Ms. LADY, Mr. Noodle, Mr. Srixon, Mr. Taylor Made, Mr. Nike, and Mr. Callaway, you touched the lives of many people with your smile and generosity, and maintained your trademark sense of etiquette and decorum all the way to the end. You will all be missed and though your spirit lives on in your brothers and sisters, it is with a heavy heart that this memoriam is written in your honor. Take care in your next life and enjoy your time playing in the sun and short grass of the ultimate green paradise.

A Special memory to those who life lasted very short, maybe one or to swings. Hate when that happens, we pull it out to give it life only to have life snatched from it within minutes. Its life as expensive as it was, usually leaves us trying to give it more life rather than its brother who might have been around for a few hours. But as the 5 minutes pass, we are left to turn to its Newer brother in the wings waiting its turn. So yes Marc, this is a fitting tribute to those who have come and gone. Some memories will last a lifetime while others are a distant memory. We can only hope for Special memories for those waiting their turn~~

You left out "Alien Abduction". You hit a ball in the fairway, everyone saw where the ball landed, but when you get there...... It's Gone!

I made a funny observation. Some of you know that I host a pre-1900 golf tournament at the original site of the Chicago Golf Club in the suburbs of Chicago.

This past year we had just under 50 players playing pre-1900 golf equipment and gutta percha balls on that course.

After we had finished the final round I asked for all those players who had lost a ball to raise their hands. The majority did so. I replied, "100 years from now some golf historian will walk this course and stumble upon your gutty and assume it was from opening day in 1892. The future golf historians thank you for confusing them."

And that is a completely fair statement...100 years...heck 10 years from now when those balls lose their paint there will be little to differentiate them from the originals.
