Tiger Woods will play in next week’s World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, Woods announced Thursday via his web site and on Twitter.

“Feeling fit and ready to tee it up at Firestone next week. Excited to get back out there,” Woods tweeted.

Woods hasn’t played since since withdrawing from The PLAYERS Championship after nine holes on May 12 when he re-injured his left knee and Achilles. He had been suffering from a mild medial collateral ligament strain a strained left Achilles, an injury he originally sustained during the third round of the Masters.

Only recently has Woods started hitting balls again, according to his web site.

Woods has won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational seven times in his career. Last year, he tied for 78th, marking the first time in 11 appearances that he failed to finish in the top four.

Woods has played in six events on the PGA TOUR this season, posting two top-10 finishes while making five of six cuts.

Cool!! I wonder if he will try to be at the Wyndham in Greensboro,NC. It would be his last chance to get points for the cup if he makes that one of his goals. He would really have to do something over the next few weeks inorder to make it though.

Yeah i wonder if Tiger will start playing some of the "lesser" tournaments. Right now he just needs to get out and play. Play every week, i don't care how nice his backyard is it doesn't compare to competing.

I just hope he is really physically ready to compete and not just coming back because he is bored.

I've been good with predicting Tiger's year so far. Only exceptions have been his finishes at Doral and Dubai and WD'ing from The Players. Said he'd come back this week, and I was right. If only I could predict lottery numbers now. Anyway, my only hope is that he gets paired with Adam Scott. Then he gets to spend 36 holes with Steve Williams the first couple days. Talk about a ratings boost. He probably won't do exceptionally well since he hasn't hit balls in a while with Foley according to Sean, but it'll be difficult to do worse than 2nd to last like last year so I say a big step in the right direction with 5th to last. Honestly though I'm glad he's coming back. Chevron and The Masters made me realize when he's in the mix it is extremely exciting, even though it's scary for me to even accept the fact he's going to win a tournament again. I hope he's healthy and can at least get in the mix to put in some spice on Sunday afternoon leader boards.

I don't think he gives a you know what about the FedEx Cup. The only 4 tournaments he really cares about are The Masters, US Open, British Open, and PGA Championship. If the PGA was 2 weeks ago I don't think we'd have seen him at all except for the Australian Masters because of a appearance fee and Chevron because it's his own tournament. If he gets enough points to play The Barclays the next 2 weeks then I think we'll see him at whatever tournaments he then qualifies for. But if he went to play the Wyndham I'd be stunned. In a good way though. Tiger needs to wrap the fact around his skull that he needs to play more events.

I wonder how much the offered him for his appearance fee. I know some tourneys pay him 2 mil just for showing up.
