Ok, so I just got done booking my first golf trip to Nevada. I have never played golf in this region and I am looking for some advice. So far I know we are playing 3 courses in Mesquite and possibly two more courses in Las Vegas. The three golf courses we are playing in Mesquite are Falcon Ridge, Conestoga Golf Club and Wolf Creek.
A little about me, as I think it may help. I have lived in Orlando Florida for the last 10 years, but I grew up outside Detroit. I travel up to the Midwest often for golf and I hit the ball about a club farther up there. For instance I hit my 7 i only 170 in FL, but 180 up north. In Florida I don’t see much elevation change, but since I have played a bunch in Northern Michigan I am familiar with playing courses that have some, but not a ton of change. So I have heard that I will be playing up to 150-200 ft. changes in elevation, and I also hear that I may hit the ball much further in the mountains. First off, does anyone have information about courses in Las Vegas that I should add to my trip? I am not looking to pay more than $60-70 per round unless I win big on the tables!!! Haha!! I am thinking I can fit in two more rounds while in Vegas. 2nd, any advice regarding any of the courses I am playing in Mesquite? Anything I should know such as greens tend to break a certain way? Anything would be helpful! And of course any idea about what I should do about clubbing up and down when playing big drops/rises in elevation? How much further will I hit my clubs? Pauite Golf Resort 30 min from Strip. Very good conditions and a must play. No houses. If you can pull it off money wise, Cascata is superior!!! An absolute must play towards the Hoover Dam.
Do not even bother with the Wynn. So over-rated and most over priced course in the U.S.. For great fun the Royal Links Have a great trip! |

FYI...You WILL get longer ball flights in the desert. Start off 1 club and adjust from there. Don't kid yourself on the weather being the desert. It can get cold so prepare. Las Vegas golf is fun but can be pricey.

I agree with "golfdude", just play your distances unless your a scratch golfer. You can get alot better deals if you play twilight and being daylight savings time around the corner that should help. I went to Vegas last year and played 4 times. I highly recommend "The Badlands" golf course and if your gonna play Wolf Creek you will LOVE it is awesome!!!!! Take your time at Wolf Creek and enjoy the views as there are alot of elevation changes. As a matter of fact, before you tee off the Pro shop will make you sign a waiver releasing them of any liability from getting hurt from the golf cart because you will be driving up and down some very steep inclines. This golf course is a must!!!

I live in Ely NV. 6500ft I come down and do the ST George UT, Mesquite and Vagas thing about every other weekend. I just played Wolf Creek and Falcon Ridge about a month ago. Wolf Creek is by far the most beautiful track you will see. Take a camera. you will have plenty of time between holes. The starter told us 5 hour rounds are normal. Ours was closer to 6.
Falcon ridge plays about 4 1/2. I lose about 1 club coming down 4000 ft. you should gain about a half club. |

Best golf in the states, for sure is in Vegas area. You need to go to Paiute, for sure. 3 courses to choose from at good skill level (Wolf is best of the 3). Angel Park is a Palmer design Muny course and fun to play for short $$. Coyote Springs is a Nicklaus design that is probably his best after Muirfield. Book through GolfNow to save some $$. Enjoy.

My brother was in town this week and we played 5 days straight, 7 rounds total. Coyote Springs is the best kept secret around. I've lived her in vegas for 8 years, I retired from the Air Force in this area, originally from Denver. The mild winter we've had has meant that I have golfed every weekend since September.
My brother and I played Stallion Mountain, Revere Lexington, Bear's Best, Coyote Springs 36 holes in one day, Aliante (my home course) and Paiute Wolf Course. If you have any specific questions about any local courses hit me up at Keith_1969@live.com Keith |
