I'm boycotting and not watching, and actually pulling for the other side (Just this time) because of Freddie Couples decision to pick Tiger Woods on the team. It's so not right to deprive some of the really great young players that deserve to be there.

To quote the great movie, Stripes...

"RELAX FRANCIS!"

You should totally boycott...everyone will notice and rise up in arms. Its the freaking President's Cup not the Ryder Cup. No one really cares nor remembers who won and they even allowed a tie a couple of years ago.

Seriously.

I guess thats why they call him the Captain because he gets to pick two players to round out his squad. It is his priviledge and if he wants to pick the kid who always gets picked last so be it. But to say you are going to pull for the other side, really!

If I decided to boycott every Ryder Cup or President's Cup in which I disagreed with the Captain's picks, I wouldn't have watched many of them.

That said, I understand your point. Couples is a moron. It's not so much that he picked Tiger, it's the manner in which he did it, announcing it more than a month ahead of time. Hell, he should have announced Tiger was on the team when he was selected captain more than a year ago.

Some times young players can not make the shot when the heat is on. Should Tiger be there with the way he has been playing? NO! Still think what he has done over the years Tiger is top 5 best all time golfers. I think more people will watch because Tiger is there then if Tiger was not there.

No Buck Rogers...no bucks!

I don't know if a lifetime of achievement gives you reason to put him on the team. I think Couples chose Woods because he believes that Woods will find his game. He has shown progress and lets not forget even in this fallen time for Tiger he has performed better than average in majors. Since 2010 he still has 3 top 5's in majors. He T-4 at the Masters this year, missed the next two majors with an injury and missed the cut at he PGA.

I think Couples believes in Tiger.

Ratings = money, and that's what it's all about. Irrespective of his poor play, he still can drive ratings up, although there is an article on Golf Channel Website which discusses how the number of fans following him in Australia this week is only a small fraction of what it was in 2009 when he won the tournament which coincidentally, was his last win. If he has another poor season next year, it's over.

I won't boycott because the team events in golf are my favorite tournaments. The President's Cup loses the battle of interest to the 4 majors, but the Ryder Cup is what gets me more into pro golf than anything. That's another story though. Tiger doesn't deserve to be on the team. I've said it before, if his past accomplishments mean so much and his current play doesn't, then pick Jack Nicklaus for your other captain's pick. Fact is Keegan Bradley got completely screwed over by Couples. The only reason he didn't automatically qualify is because he's a rookie and lost a year to everyone else. And he won a major and another tournament and doesn't get in AS A ROOKIE? STUPID! I still like Fred, but I've lost a ton of respect for him for putting Tiger on. Now I will root for Tiger since he's playing for the US of A and I need him to do well if the US is going to win. And if it's Tiger-Scott on Sunday, then Golf Channel/NBC will get A LOT more viewers compared to Bradley/Scott.

because of Freddie Couples decision to pick Tiger Woods on the team

The day of redemption is coming very, very soon for all you TW haters.

Pretty sure you've been saying that since April 2010.

yeah, relax francis ... your boycott can't stop the power:

Tiger Woods gets endorsement for bag

By DOUG FERGUSON
AP Golf Writer
SYDNEY (AP) â€" Tiger Woods has another corporate endorsement, this one to fill the void on his golf bag.
In a deal announced Thursday, Woods signed an exclusive endorsement deal with Fuse Science, Inc., a Florida-based sports nutrition company. This comes five weeks after the 14-time major champion became an endorsement ambassador for Rolex.
The significance of his deal with Fuel Science is that it finally gives Woods an endorsement for his golf bag. Behind his Nike TW hat, the bag is the biggest billboard for Woods for as much TV times that he gets at golf tournaments.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Woods will not display the company on his bag, however, until the Chevron World Challenge that starts Dec. 1 in California. He is playing the Australian Open this week, then goes to the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne, where corporate endorsements for players give way to team uniforms for the week.
Woods has not had an endorsement on his bag since AT&T dropped him nearly two years ago when he was exposed for having multiple extramarital affairs. He had his name and the TW logo on his bag when he returned at the 2010 Masters, and has kept that since.
Fuse has a short history with athletes returning from a downfall. It signed a five-year deal with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick when he returned from serving a federal sentence for dog fighting. The deal was canceled about a week later when the company discovered that Vick also had signed a deal with another sports nutrition company.
Over the last two months, Fuse Science also has signed endorsement contracts with Tampa Bay cornerback Ronde Barber and Houston Texans running back Arian Foster.
Woods, who opened with a 68 at the Australian Open, was playing his second round at The Lakes. He said in a press release announcing the deal that the company’s nutrition technology will be a “game-changer in how we live our lives every day.”
“This company is laying the foundation for some very significant things,” Woods said.
Woods had lost endorsement deals with AT&T, Accenture, Tag Heuer, Gatorade and Gillette since the crash in his personal life. Two of the three new deals he has signed since July are related to health products. Woods also has a deal with a Japanese company that makes a heat rub product. The market for that deal is mainly in Asia.
“This is a very big day for our company,” president and chief operating officer Brian Tuffin said in a release. “Our partnership with the world’s best is an enabler to have a worldwide impact sooner than later. Tiger recognizes the significance of the journey we’re on as a company, and wants to be part of our growth.”
Woods will represent the Fuse Science technology, intellectual property, unique delivery system, and future products to be developed in the sports nutrition and energy categories.
Woods has gone two years without winning and has dropped to No. 58 in the world, his lowest since he turned pro in 1996 at age 20. He missed most of the summer this year with recurring injuries to his left leg, though he said those are fully healed.
“There is not an ounce of doubt that there is much more excellence to come,” Tuffin said, “and we’re glad being ’Powered by Fuse’ can be a part of it.”

Let's do what all the armchair quarterbacks and Tuesday experts do and wait till after the President's Cup to wax eloquent on how stupid Couples was or how brilliant he was.....<sigh>

Let's take Tiger out of the equation for a moment. It seems like some are advocating there should be no captain's picks. If all you want the captain to do is look down the list of the rankings and pick the next couple of guys not on the team, why have a captain's pick? Isn't the whole idea of the captain's picks to give the guy that's leading some say in rounding out the team with a couple of players he thinks will help him win?

Can we criticize him for making the picks he does? Sure. But to say he should have picked the next highest guys ranked and to do otherwise isn't 'fair' to those players seems to defy the whole point of having captain's picks.

Mark, you're precisely right. It's the captain's prerogative to select players who in his opinion, will be most helpful to the team. Couples, however, took it to a new level, starting with the absurd statement that Woods has been "the best player forever". Hell, if that's the way he feels, he should be lobbying the PGA Tour to give Tiger a lifetime exemption to the team. I don't have a problem with Tiger being on the team. Maybe it will be the challenge he needs to jump-start his game. I have a problem with Couples and the awkward and inarticulate way he handled the matter.
