I'm trying to figure out why this happens to me.. I generally push the ball with the driver and my short irons, where as I hook it with the 5 and 6. My 5 and 6 are hollow back irons (looks sorta like hybrids) with graphite shafts, where as the others are steel. All are regular flex.
I understand that I'm coming with my clubhead closed compared to the path, even if I open the club head a lot intentionally before starting my swing. Any tips? |

it sounds to me the graphite clubs have much more flex

Yes, typically ( not cast in stone , graphite is 1/2 to a full flex softer than steel shafts ), beside the weight isuue ( graphites are lighter so you might swung faster and hands / arms came across faster ).Also check the lie on the longer irons, too up right a lie will cause hooking ball flight.
A very normal fault for golfers is to fade/slice the longer clubs and pull/hook the shorter clubs. You're doing the opposite, therefore, the incorrect shaft flex and lie could be the culprite. |

Agree. The graphite's flex and possibly higher kick-point could be emphasizing the closed face during impact. I bet if you took a video, your hand position will be different at the point of impact between the steel shafted clubs and the graphite ones.
