Just saw a promotion from Titleist which canvased evey golf equipment site that I know and even a few pro shops from local golf course.

Buy 4 dozens of ProV1 or V1x with personalized marking for the price of 3.
Less than $35 a dozen of personalized ProV1.

Hum... never saw that from the OEM in the past. Must be feeling the pressure from other nice golf ball

They are more than likely the 2009-10 version of the ball. The 2011 model came out if February and as most companyies do, they're just moving out the old and bringing in the new. You can tell the difference in the model year by the Pro V1 sidestamp. 09-10 have a stamp like <*-----Pro V1-----*>. 2011 model has just <---Pro V1---> and is a thicker and more modern looking font.

I don't know if the have lost their luster as much as the competition has gotten better. Nike, Taylormade, Callaway, Bridgestone and Srixon are all making balls that are very competitive performance wise to the Pro V1. I would say on a side note that the Pro V1 is the #1 poser ball, guys shell out the big bucks and don't have the consistancy to reap the benfits of a tour level ball but buy them anyway to impress people/fuel their own delusions. Not that everyone who plays a Pro V1 is like that just that those who are like that tend to reach for the Titleist before the other brands.

I think the time has past that people just buy the name.

Check out the latest Golf Digest. May 2011. The Hot List is the "Right Ball for You." Obviously you get what you pay for. But I am not willing to shell out $3-$4 a ball to hit a one bounce check wedge. I just bought a dozen Callaway HX Diablo Tours which got a Gold rating for mid-priced balls. Good enough for me. And $26 at Golf Galaxy. And I can spin these as much as I need to. And is there anything better than beating the guy with the $1000 clubs and $4 golf balls?

Most overrated ball in golf.. I said that from the beginning.. the data proves it.. why??? Why do amateurs with handicaps above 1.2 and buy their own balls hit it???

I heard today that Titleist/Achushnet(sp?) is in trouble and that Trump and Nike were trying to buy them? Don't know if it's true heard this from Nike staffer on the Champions Tour. Anyone else heard anything like this?Need less to say I was very surprised!!!

I know fortune brands, Titleists parent company is selling off some of their golf interests. They have already sold Cobra to Puma and I have heard Scotty Cameron may be for sale also. So it is definitely possible what you are hearing is not totally unfounded.
