I use the GolfLogix app on my iPhone, (there are apps for all smartphones for golflogix) it's a free download and trial round, after that it's $39 /year for the subscription. I wouldn't download it until you are ready to use it because there is a time limit if I remember correctly. It can measure length of your shot, log the club you used so you can average out how far you actually hit each club. It gives distance to landmarks such as hazards, 150 yd marker, bunkers, etc. Has a scorecard to keep track for you and your 4 some, tracks putts, up and downs, fairways hit or missed left or right, greens in regulation, sand saves, scrambling, and bounce backs.

I used the iGolf Neo for a year but since I carry my phone I ditched the extra device and the subscription for the year was the same amount.

As with gps it is accurate to with in 1-3 yards but you don't have to have line of sight as with a Laser. Laser's are more accurate but if you have a hill or trees in your way you won't get a yardage plus you have to pay for it. Plus with a Laser you have to have a steady hand.

One last word on the iPhone app is it drains the battery fast so you must lower screen brightness and lock it between shots if you don't have a backup battery. I carry a solar powered battery backup. Hope this was helpful.

Jody, in answer to your question posted on the wall...I use a Blackberry Bold with the free BlackBerry GPS Golf application. It is not as sophisticated as somewith the graphics but it give you the distance you are looking for and can associate different clubs. As David pointed out battery life with a smartphone app can be an issue but I can play an 18 hole round and still have battery using BBGPSGolf. Good luck!

iGolf Neo. Cheap ($100-125), small, convenient, and simple. You have the 150 yard marker in your pocket.

The Izzo Swami is about the simplest device i've seen and it is also pretty accurate. It's $99, but i'm guessing you could get it cheaper if you shop around a little.
