I just read an article where Steve Williams says he "lost alot of respect" for Woods and he feels like he wasted the last couple years away. He went on to say how he has been nothing but loyal to Woods and was planning on sticking it out with him.

Now this all sounds like its making Tiger out to be the bad guy. I'm not saying he's not but do you really think Williams was "sticking it out" out of loyalty or, like me, he wasn't leaving his cash cow? No other caddy has made the kind of money that Williams has made so why would you jump ship?

I think he stuck it out primarily because of loyalty. He's made close to $10M on Tiger's bag, not counting bonuses. Plus, Tiger allowed him to have his own sponsors when he was carrying the bag. Additionally, he has real estate and business interests back in Australia. I think Tiger needed Steve more than he needed Tiger. Let's face it; he could have dropped Tiger and got a money bag in a heartbeat.

But most importantly, at this point in his life, he really doesn't need the money. He's been on lucrative bags for thirty years.

I agree with Mike, stayed because of loyalty. Thought Stevie treated tiger like a little brother, always had his back even if it was wrong. Don't be surprised to see Scott develope into the big dog on the block an make a good run.

I think Tiger will be alright with his next caddy. I felt the same way the 3 times I got laid-off the last 13 years. All he has is because he caddied for Tiger. I bet he doesn't make a million a year on his next bag.

Stevie can beat his chest about loyalty all he wants but the only thing he was truly loyal too is the almighty dollar. He wouldn't have made nearly as much money working for anyone else, now after 2 less than lucrative years he pissed because th gravy strain has temporarily run out of steam. Without Tiger, Stevie doesn't have the money or the backers to do his bussines ventures in Australia.

I defintely agree with Luke....his cash cow has run dry for the last couple of years so he's upset. Loyal my ASS.....will see if Adam Scott doesn't win how loyal will he be or would he just jump ship.

I suppose it could be $20M. Caddies typically get 5%, 7% for a Top Ten, and 10% for a win. Tiger won around $96M with Williams, but didn't win all his tournaments. He also won some tournaments around the world, so it probably is closer to $20M than $10M.

John, I think it's fair to say that much, maybe even most of what he has is because of Tiger, but certainly not all he has. Don't forget; he caddied for Greg Norman when he was No. 1, then caddied for Raymond Floyd until he hooked up with Tiger. So he did ok with those guys. I doubt there are ANY caddies making $1M a year, except maybe Williams for a few years, and that would have had to include bonus money which would not have been an issue for Tiger because he was bringing in $90M to $100M a year. Only Phil comes close to those numbers.

What if he had caddied for some junk players? He wouldn't be as sought after as he is. Don't get me wrong i'm sure he's a great caddy but it doesn't hurt to caddy for players of that talent level. If he continues to caddy for Scott, who is my favorite golfer, and bring him back to form than i'll sing his praises as the greatest. But i'm pretty sure i could have caddied for Woods and he would have still won all those tournaments... maybe. I think it's Langer that doesn't allow his caddy to give him advice just hand him clubs and he's done ok.

Well, Langer's caddie for the past several years has been his son.

Someone coined a phrase of the caddie's primary responsibilities:

Show up, keep up, and shut up!
