I work out there this week and can tell you guys/gals even though conditions were already perfect soft greens, low and thin rough and no wind, the PGA set up on a lot of the holes made them so easy. Some examples, on Saturday # 2 tee box was moved up to the womens tees 301, normal would be about 389. It was the first time in tournament history that there was a driveable par 4, so I was told. Another example on Sunday the Pin position on # 3 green was front left, over the last two years I work this hole it been back right with the bunker and tree making it tough to get close. Also the par 3 # 4 tee box was way up around 180, never seen it this far up 230 to 240 is where it has been. Do not get me wrong I like Zach Johnson however just do not think it was fair to set the record with already great playing conditions and make the set up of the course so easy on top of that. Maybe Hogan turn over in his grave!!!!! What do you guys and gals think??

Think of it this way instead. All records are meant to be broken eventually~

I agree with you. I think a tournament with scores around Even par are much more exciting than tournaments with massive under par numbers.

I look at it this way, I am an offensive type person. I love offensive football games, basketball games, and baseball games. Deffensive games are so boring to watch. High-power offense is exciting. Same with watching the golf tourn... U.S. Open type conditions that are just brutal and high in penalizing the player when off the fairway a mer 2" is boring to me. Low scores, lots of birdies, and eagles create a more exciting atmosphere. No atmosphere is created just by making par. Just my opinion.

Having been there late Saturday and almost all of Sunday ... and getting to watch the final groups come through Nos. 11-12-13-14 ... and then rooting for Zach to take control and getting to see him make the putts on 12, 13, 15 and 17 and navigate 18 for par to win ... I loved it.

The entire field has to play the same track each week, so however it turns out to be playing, I like to see how the players handle it. Can they make a bunch of birdies if everybody's going low? Or can they make a never-ending string of 4s and win the USGA's par-70 Open? I love both, and I especially love seeing champions like Zach Johnson rise up and win a tournament rather than watching the entire field choke and the tournament crown the last choker standing.

Maybe next year Colonial will grow up the rough, tuck all the pins and let us watch the first guy to get to 8 under win. That's fine with me. So long as everybody has to play the same course, the final score is just a number in terms of its relation to par. It's relation to the rest of the field is all that matters.
