I would like feedback from anyone who has used the Skycaddie SGX. I'm currently using the Golf Logix app on my iPhone which has most of the features of the Skycaddie except the break on the greens. The main thing I don't like about using my phone is that it take a long time to show updated yardages as you move. I've compared to different devices built in to carts and they update much quicker. I also had the i golf neo which was very basic and it updated quicker than my phone app. Any comments would be appreciated.

I use the SG4 and I am looking at the SGX. If I can give you any info on the SG4 let me know. I have been using Skycaddie for 5 years.

Used an older SkyCaddie for a golf vacation in Maui and liked that, right now I use a GolfBuddy full time and LOVE that.

Get it. I will be buried with two things: my SkyCaddie and 9-iron.

I got the SGX last year. I really like the functionality. You can control the marker where you would like to hit the ball. This helps a lot with layups, hazards, etc. It is also better than just telling you front, middle, and back yardages. I never really used the scorecard option, but it's on there. I have had no problems with mine. Let me know if you have any more questions. It updates quick, and does the other things like driver distance etc. you can also map out your own courses (I haven't used this either, but if you have a field you can hit balls in, could be useful to set up some flags)

I used the iPhone apps too for a while.
Without getting into a debate about which is better, I got a Laser Range finder.

I still use my iPhone app from time to time to look for unseen hazards on new courses but I have found the laser to be a great addition as it is simple as point and shoot and locks on very fast to whatever I am shooting...

I do not have the advantage of the "Green Break Feature" but that is OK by me...

Can't say alot about the skycaddie except a friend of mine got the sgx a couple weeks ago and i don't see much difference with my golf buddie, the graphics look equally great on both and it seems to do the same things. Keep in mind we both are learning about the various features as we use them.

Hopefully that will be many years from now.

I had a Skycaddie years ago and got really sick of the fees. Using it was great though. Went to a Golfbuddy because all the courses are loaded fully with targets and they update it often for free. Just buy it and go. I now use a Garmin Approach G5 and it is awesome. Much better than the Golfbuddy and again NO FEES!

I can say that if Skycaddie ever drops the fees I would probably go back to them and get the SGX but that will probably never happen. I honestly have no idea how they stay in business with all those fees when everyone else is producing GPS units that have full course loads on them from all over the planet and have no fees attached. They are even as accurate or even more accurate than the Skycaddie which is their main selling point that they are the most accurate. I do find my Garmin extremely accurate and the touch screen is very easy to use and very responsive.

As for a phone yardage app. I guess my fear and worry would be that I would drop or lose it on the course and my phone and all its contents would be gone. Also, phones arent waterproof like most GPS units are. Once it starts raining, and we all have been suddenly caught on a course when it begins to rain, I would be scared that my phone would die of drowning.

I tried the phone apps and they didn't work as well as my buddies Sonocaddie stand alone GPS unit. It sucked the life out of my cell battery too. I went out and got the newest Sonocaddie V505. It is great, no fees unless you want flyover pics and sattelite views. It is awesome.
