The golf channel reported that with the recent DQ's steming from TV viewers calling in rules infractions they had officials watching at Torrey Pines. There were several calls claiming Bubba's ball moved on 17 when he did his practice swings, they reviewed the footage but didn't see anything. Is this considered the first replay challenge in golf?

I agree with many of these posts. If the someone caught a player knowingly cheat that is one thing, but this is just stupid. If you want rulings to be handled via television I would have some PGA Tour Officials watching the coverage and then if they see an infraction they can notify the players in real time. That way the players don't get DQ'd after for signing an improper scorecard.

If a viewer calls in to report somthing, They should post his name and number on the T.V. screen for all to see who the a$$ is. Quit hiding behind your phone! I did read that the R&A in reviewing this, and new editions are do out every 4 years. The next one is due out in Jan. 2012 so we shall see.

I agree with everything you all have said, BUT...... what would any of us do if we saw on the course, or on TV an infraction occur? Even if you told the officials immediately, or the next day... we all would fall into that category. Could we sleep at night knowing "so and so" commited an infraction that earned them way more money than they should have? Could we look at that player knowing what we saw, the same way? Legitimate questions to ask ourselves don't ya think? I agree that this has gotten out of hand, but the sooner the USGA/PGA draws that Black and White line between what a spectator can do (on or off the course), the sooner we can lay it to rest. Way too many grey areas right now. It all started back in Hawaii at the beginning of Jan. and here we are 1 month later and the same thing is happening..... They need to light a fire under some butts and figure this out. The front 9 at Waste Management (besides 1, 2, 8,and 9) is absolutely empty of spectators and TV towers. The towers they do have on each green are just shooting the balls for distances for stats (transit type machine), and yo may have the camera crews following certain people, but other than that.. very little media back in the "back 40" we call it. If I was to see an error occur while following ex:Mark Calcavechia, I wouldn't know he recorded the error until after the whole was done, and his little score board carrier would change his score accordingly. With that said, those questions I would have to ask myself.... would I? Could I? Should I?.... Just saying..

This is much to much of TV callers. TV is going to kill the game.

I watched it at no time did I see a camera that stayed on the ball. What are these people watching is there a certain channel that just shows the ball. Wait until Tiger wins again there will be so many calls trying to get him dq. This needs to stop.

RiverfrontFrank and Bucknut are right. if people feel they need to call, that's one thing but for actual phones being answered regarding rules is insane. "well it's ringing, i guess we have to answer it". if it's not caught by the player, another player, or an official on the course and it's not reported that day, the scorecard stands as signed. can't believe they leave themselves open for this. it's starting to get more coverage than Tiger and we can't have that, can we?

This is absolutely ridiculous. I am so tired of hearing this crap. If people can't handle someone's winning and someone's losing and they need to try and make an impact, then the integrity of this game has gone down the tubes. I hate to say it, but Luke's probably right that it was some big time Phil fans trying to give their guy a win. That's just wrong though. I'd rather see someone earn it than through a national telethon. But if Phil and Tiger swapped places on Sunday, I bet there would be some hardcore Tiger fans that would have called in Bubba as well.

It's freaking McCarthyism pro golf style.

I still don't think it is right that people can call in and report a penalty on a golfer. You can't do this in any other sport and if it was missed, it was missed

Yep, I agree too.

It would have been much better for the integrity of the game if 10,000,000 people had witnessed Camilo Villegas violate a rule, not call it on himself, and gone on to finish third, and cash a check for $600,000. I'm sure that none of the young kids just starting out in the game would never for a moment think "if Camilo can get away with it, why can't I".
