So I took the day off work today to watch my daughter's high school golf match and am extremely proud of her not for her score but the way she handled herself on the course. She shot an 84 with a 10 on the 7th hole! Yes a 10. The amazing part is she never slammed, tossed, or banged a club. Didn't curse, whine, cry, stomp her feet...nothing. I could tell by her facial expression on the way to the 8th tee that she was upset and the worst part is spectators aren't allowed to say anything to the competitors and I'm thinking "poor Courtney, she needs some encouragement" but it's not allowed. So I see her take some deep breaths then play the next holes par, par, par, 3 putt bogey. After the round several coaches said they were very impressed by her demeanor and that you couldn't tell the difference when she made par, birdie, or card a 10 for a hole. I learned something very valuable today from a 16 year old. I'm very proud of my daughter.

I know you aree proud of her. A fellow strackateer, Jason Hudson, has a son and daughter who are so well behaved on the course that sometimes I am ashamed of my behavior.

Well she aparently had some really good parenting on the way as well. That is really great to still know there are some teenagers out there that know how to act - you should be very, very proud! Good job pop!

Read and article yesterday where a H.S. Cross-Country runner stopped in the middle of a race to help a fellow opponent who had been spiked in the middle of the race. He slung the runner over his shoulder and jogged back 1/2 mile to the start line to where the coach's could administer first aid and get him to an emergency room. Then instead of stopping since he obviously no longer had a chance of winning the race he continued and finished the course. The injured runner required 20 stitches. Like txgal said instances like this are a direct reflection on good parenting. Something you don't see very often anymore in this "me, me, me, I, I, I" age.

Great story. I'd have liked to have seen dudes have the attitude your daughter did during my HS golf season. One guy on our team Carter was notorious for this. I played with him in tryout rounds and when he hit bad shots he would say things like "I hate golf." "You @#$&ing suck Carter." "What the @#$% are you doing?" And then of course slamming and throwing his clubs around. I'm good at controlling my temper, but I still will let one out of my mouth or toss a club every so often. Your daughter's got the attitude most people our age need more of.

You have done a great job with her. She would not be like she is without your help. Thanks Courtney maybe we all need to be more like you. Thanks Dave for a great girl to keep our game playing the way it should be played. She is more like a young Lady now then "poor Courtney"

Great story, Dave. It's great when our kids make us proud. We learn from them as well as they from us.

Great story.. I am intrigued about the "no crowd response" rule. Wonder why that is?? Not that way on the PGA tour.

From my state junior golf association: "DO NOT walk along side the junior golfers while walking down the fairway or to the next teeing ground.
Do NOT talk with the players, as this will be construed as giving advice, resulting in a penalty for the player.
Please do NOT attempt to give rulings or advice. There are several rules officials on the course to provide the players with assistance if they need it."

Good story David. Nothing better than kids making their Parents proud. Makes it all worth while, doesn't it.
