Ever got a wood tip?

I read an interesting article in this week-end's Globe and Mail: Apparently, Tiger gave O'Hair a putting tip right before the tournament started. On Thursday, O'Hair's putter was incredibly hot. He was making everything! Short, medium, long putts. Then on Friday, his putting got really bad. He reverted to his old stroke and started to make putts again.

There's apparently a name for this kind of tip Tiger gave to O'Hair: Johnny Miller calls them "wood" tips. Not because they come from Tiger, but because these tips seem to "Work Only One Day".

Have you ever experienced this?? I know I have! Plenty of times! For instance, I got tips on my putting from a pro at the beginning of the season. The next round, I had 31 putts, my best ever, and by far! Then things started to go really badly after a few weeks and I reverted back to my old stroke with great success. Sometimes the benefit of the advice lasts only one round before things go even worse than before applying the tip. Why is that?? Are we over applying the tip? Or not applying it enough??

See the article here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com../

You were paying extra attention when using the new putting tips, more aware of what's going on. After awhile, you had gone back to whatever you were used to, so, no more magic.
Think back of what's going on with the new putting style, were you more alert of what you were doing because you were doing something new ?

I can't say anybody's ever given me a "wood" tip, but I've definitely found "wood" secrets on the driving range or mid-round. Some little swing thought or move has suddenly solved a problem, and it works great for the rest of the day â€" then the next day or next round, that same swing thought or move is gone.

Worked only one day.

Would totally agree. Worked out some bad habits and then a week later downhill.
