I was wondering if anyone else saw the Power Play Golf on Golf Channel on Monday. If you saw it what are your thoughts?

Thanks,

I watched it and found it very interesting. Risk-reward golf at its best. I hope that they plan more of these in the future. Events for the general public will also spark more interest as well.

I agree I don't think it will catch on for the pros but could be fun on the weekends for amateurs.

I can't stomach Ian Poulter for more than 8 seconds, so that program got an automatic "flip" when I saw it.

I saw it and it was interesting, but I don't see it catching on. Lots of issues to overcome. Courses will need to have double the number of pins and cups and you'd have to have a large enough group to make it worthwhile to convert the course. It would be too confusing for others not in the tournament if they went out for a round and encountered two flags at a hole. Stableford scoring works best with players of similar abilities. It can be used with handicaps, but it gets pretty complicated.

I saw it and liked the concept. Just a little confusing and hard to keep track of I thought. No way anything ever will replace stroke play or the rare match play event on the PGA Tour schedule. Maybe natural stableford like The International had.

Had heard about this from some British golfing friends (apparently it was shown in the UK earlier this week) and recorded it when I saw it was on the Golf Channel.

What I couldn't believe, though, was that it lasted for 3 hours. If ever a show was crying out for some editing, this was it. I have watched the first hour so far and the opening group have just finished the second hole! I think the TV execs need to work out their target audience too. Most golfers will find it too gimmicky, and if they are trying to expand into new audiences, it needs to be shorter (non-golfers probably don't want to know where Paula Creamer has flown in from etc.).

On the other hand, it was great to see the likes of Player, Woosnam and Daly in action, and frankly anything which gives Ms Creamer a bit of screen time gets my vote. ;-)

I watched it...and I like the stableford format plus the modified "power play" getting double pts.
I see stableford on a regular basis at my course all 4 Blitz groups use it. And at first i had no idea what they were talking about when they would talk about how many pts they had to pull in order to win a hole or overall pts needed. Now, I have more of an understanding of the format. I will say it seems to be more laid back for the Pros to have fun.
