I really don't know much about sharpening grooves. I've heard all the hype about how sharpening grooves increases spin, but what are the cons? Are there any? I have a ping wedge that I love, but the grooves are pretty worn...is it a good idea to spend the $20+ for a sharpening tool?
Thanks

Sharpening the grooves will give a few more years to your irons.
However, unless you don't play by the rules you'll be bonded by the it even if you just play by yourself.
Do you know what kind of grooves you have in the Ping wedge?
Square, V, or U grooves?
When you buy the sharpening tool, make sure you know which one to be used on your wedge, some come with sharpening edge for all kinds of the grooves and instruction for you to do it without making the grooves non-conforming.
Using the wrong tools ( or bad tools ) on your wedge will either make it non-conforming or ruin the wedge.

My wedge is a 56* Ping M/B. The grooves look square to me, I'm not exactly sure though, they could be U-shaped I guess. They look they same as my G2 irons. Any know for sure what shape they are?

I'm pretty certain it's a U groove.
There are good sharpening tools for about $20, for all types of grooves.

I can't even spin the ball out of the rough at some of the courses I play at with my Spin Milled wedge and I can spin it 20 feet back with a 40 yard pitch out of the fairway.

God forbid that you should be penalised for hitting into the rough!

The square groove ruling majorly was aimed at the professionals.
These guys could put a lot of spin on the golf balls out of the rough, so hence the ruling.
It probaly does not matter to an average golfer hitting out of the rough, but at greenside, spin it baby.
Don't worry if you're not playing in a U.S.G.A. sanctioned tournament after 2010 like the U.S. Open !
It might mean something to you if you're playing in a local tournament which enforece the U.S.G.A. comforming list.
