Playing courses that are "too easy"?

I was looking at my scores, and realized that all the courses I play have a slope of about 115-122, which I believe is "average".
Now I'm by no means a great golfer. My handicap is 23. I golf once a week (work full time), but still improve on consistent basis (I think my hcap declined for the last 8 roudns or so, I think).
But here's an interesting question.. Is there such thing as playing a course that's TOO easy? Obviously I'm not breaking 80 or anything like that. But I feel that constantly playing on courses with wide fairways, small bunkers, and few if any hazards can do some bad along with all the good. For instance, I usually push or fade the ball off the tee, so I've gotten used to aligning to the left of the fairway to compensate. When i played harder courses (in Tahoe, for instance - 135-140 slope), I realized that I couldn't hit nearly as many fairways as I thought, so I was constantly in trouble.

What are your thoughts on this? Any of you feel this way?

I don't know... There are courses that I find too easy. When there's no apparent difficulty, I get bored very fast. I get sloppy and my scores reflect my lack of interest. But when the course is tougher, it keeps my focus a lot better and I end up playing better too and having more fun. I don't mind scoring a bit higher when I realize that once the slope index is taken into account, it's actually lowering my handicap :) I was disappointed with my lowest score last year, which was actually not very good for my handicap because the course was too easy.

I don't think slope can really make up for how easy some courses can be. I've gone out and shot 80 on a very easy course when I hit the ball everywhere. I would've easily shot 100 on a course that had any o.b. or real trouble. I guess my short answer is yes, a golf course can be to easy.

That's kind of what I was getting at too. Some of these courses have virtually no obstacles, no OB etc, and I feel like the "easier" slope doesn't neccesarily make up for just how easy it is

The day I start saying courses are too easy is the day after I shoot below 70.

I like to think of certain courses as "user friendly" and "doesn't like me"

Playing easy helps the confidence. I had one of my best weeks when a played a short easy one.

I agree with Linxman....go back and play the easier or shall I say more familiar courses when you are lacking confidence...sometimes playing my regular course really helps build my confidence when preparing to play the tougher tracks!

I have never considered any course easy, some are a little more fun to play at then others
