Watching The Open today (final round)... Tiger (-5) and Molinari (-6) are paired. Tiger tees off first on #1. Always thought the player with the better score (or if both had same score, it was the player who finished earlier on the previous day), teed off first. Why/how was it determined that Tiger teed of before Molinari (who had the better score)?

Oftentimes tournaments like The Open will give a previous champion honors off the 1st tee. Augusta might do the same thing, if I'm not mistaken. Usually though, the person with the lower score will tee off first in a pairing of two when they're not at the same number.
