I notice some people bring their kids to the golf course. In general, at what age would they make you pay for the kids? Has anyone ever had an issue with bringing their kids to the course?

If you can get around without disrupting anyones round, what is your opinion of the minimum age for children?

Never had an issue. At my club there's a few folks who bring their young children along to walk nine holes after dinner but I've never seen anyone bring them on a weekend when the course is a little busier. They let them hit a shot or two as long as they are not holding up play. I think it's great for the kids, the parents, and the game. You never know where the next Annika or Tiger will come from, and God knows we need them. Well, the next Annika anyway, We found the next Tiger last Sunday.

Now I just sit back and wait for the incoming missles. But I'm prepared.

i wasn't gonna play this weekend but i was considering taking my almost 12 year old daughter and play solo while letting her ride in the cart. i want to show her what it's like on the course and to teach her about etiquette, marking the ball, not walking on someones line, being quiet when someone is gonna hit, and some rules. i want her to have an idea of what to expect before i take her to play. if she has a good time and likes being out there, i'd like to get her some lessons and take her to the range more and then go to a 9 hole to start out. if some adults and no offense, some of the ladies i've seen play would take this route it would make things a little more enjoyable for everyone. i know anyone should be allowed to go out and play a round but if you are completely clueless, start with lessons and range time and develop some sort of game before playing a large course. minimum age would depend on ability and knowledge of the game. i've seen 65 year olds that have less of an idea of what to do then some kids. i wouldn't go much younger than 7 or 8 for a child to get through a round, let alone having a good time but i still think it would depend on the kid. my 8 year old son isn't ready yet but he's psycho. break 'em in slow so you don't discourage or pressure them.

I take my 3 and 6 year old out golfing. Not alot, but enough to let them enjoy the game. I belong to a club so it doesn't cost me any more.

We play #1, #2, #3 and then there is a parallel fairway so we jump to #7, and the tee boxes for 8 and 9 are close so sometimes we just finish up #9.

I tee them up from the fairway and let them hit the ball twice. Then we putt...or for my 3 year old that means putting the ball off the green as hard as he can.

Of course I as a 15 year old don't have an issue with it and won't ever have an issue with it. I'm fine with any kid above 5 playing in my group. The way my courses work fees is that junior rates apply on M-Th after 12PM. If you're under 11 you have to have someone older than that playing with you. Until 18 I and others younger than me get away with lower rates, which can be as much as $20 savings.

I take my almost 12 year old out to the little 9 hole course on Sundays (they run a special for families with kids, $5 per person after 5pm) to play and then I take her out with me on Tuesdays to caddy for me when I play my 18. She brings her Nintendo DS and her Ipod if things get backed up and I let her drive the cart to drop me off when I have to pitch or chip, then she'll drive back to the path by the green and bring my putter and tend flag for whatever group I'm in...they've even tried to tip her at the end for being such a good flag tender and not step on their lines...she just smiles at them and says, "No thank you, my dad's already paying me for the loop." I'm so proud.

I take my daughter who is 12 years old alot......usually just me and her......Sometimes they charge me sometimes not......We will tee off then pick up her ball and go and hit from mine....then play that way to the green; just have her hit from where I hit to the green...then I let her put out......this way we don't hold anyone up; she has fun and its all good...

We take my cousins son sometimes. He is only 3 but he can hit the ball almost 75 yds. He might not hit it straight but it goes a pretty good ways for someone his age. We let him hit off our tees then we pick up his ball when we pass it. Then we let him hit one from beside the green and when we are finished putting he drops his ball about 10 feet from the hole and putts out. We usually play pretty fast so there is never a problem with holding up play.

We don't have an issue with kids playing golf.
Mostof the golf courses around here will not allow children under the age of 12 to be without adult supervision.
That being said, if the adult couls keep an eye on the youngster for safety reasons, I don't see why not having the youngsters on the golf course.

Follow the local club rules, and keep them safe.

No problem as long as they keep up the pace of play. Just as when I am out there and see anyone that swings and misses four times or scuffs it along the ground and takes an inordinate amount of time to play the hole.......they should be at the range and not on the course. If they can golf the ball.....let'm play.

Buddy of mine would bring his son, 12 at the time. To try and get him into golf.
It worked and the kid got hooked.
Some courses in my area will make you pay cart fee if only you are playing and the kid is watching. Silly I think.

I take my son who is 11. He understands pace of play so he likes it when I wave a group through. We play in a Friday scramble at my local club. He will let us hit the driver then play from our second shot into the green. When we play 18 he is good for 15 holes then drives the cart the rest of the way. One time when he was 9 I went to a course to play, told the pro he would olny be hitting some shots. He told me he still has to pay 65 dollars just like me. I walked I thought it was complete bullsh*t.
