re-color tees?

Probably not worth a forum post, but I noticed at the Robert Trent Jones golf trail, that they color their tee boxes a bit differently. In order of difficulty:

Purple
Orange
White
Silver
Teal

With slope/ratings for men on all 5. I think the womens are rated on teal and silver, possibly white. I don't know how well it works for them, but they have several things that keep pace of play high (they should, it's not a budget facility).

1.) They have a starter. Not sure if all days, but at least on Friday and Weekends
2.) 10 minute tee time intervals
3.) Handicap to tee suggestions
4.) If you think you have a big stick, you gotta tee off on purple tees.

Conventional are white (forward mens), blue ("standard" mens), black (big boys) at most courses so this makes you re-think what tees you should be playing at. It doesn't hurt that the 1st tee shot requires 220yd carry from the purple and 290 to be within 195yds on a par4.

Would just re-coloring the tees so that "purple" or "pink" tips, red , orange, and then green (women) tees and a handicap suggestion make much of a difference in tee selection?

I think I'm going colored blind with all those different colors of tee boxes.

With most courses around here, if they don't do the traditional red, white and blue then the tee colors usually coordinate with the color scheme of the course logo.

I don't think it matters what color the tees are. I would recommend to play the ones that suit your game the best. Of course, most people don't know what that is. But I'm kind of for not having traditional red, white, and blue tees because then people can try to figure out which one suits their game the best as opposed to just teeing it up always on the white, which may be too hard, or easy, for your ability.

But I think I'm in the minority, here.

Around here, Jacaranda numbers their tees from 1 through 5. Its up to you which tees you play from. Colony West has colors, but has handicaps associated with each tee on the score card. you play from the tee that is associated with your handicap.

I like getting rid of the stigma of the colors. I do think that more courses need to have combo tees. One course by me goes from 7100 from the tips to 6300. I would prefer to play around 6600 to 6700 yards. So, I usually play at 7100. Courses need to provide more options for people.

I have to second this comment. Too many people play the wrong tee boxes because of their EGO or pressure from peers. I play from tees that fit my game and have even moved up a tee box within the last year or so on several courses that I play. I am a proponent of TEE IT FORWARD ... if you can't reach the green in regulation, you're playing the wrong tees.

I've only been golfing for just over a year and this makes so much sense to me. I was explaining to a friend and showing him how playing from the back, when clearly you aren't good enough ruins the experience.

Game is hard enough. No need to 'play from the tips' just because.
