6th hole yesterday - 230yds according to the screen. Justin Thomas puts it very close and the announcer says "same club (as Matsuyama) - 6 iron". How does that happen? According to Arccos, my 6i average is 175yd with a "smart range" out to 184yd. The longest I've ever recorded was 192yd with my 6i. 230yd is beastly for a 5'10" 145lb dude. |

That six iron is probably bent to four iron loft.

So you're telling me JT hits his clubs 50% further than me? Arccos tells me my smart distance is 158 with a range of 151-174. Maybe I should just give up :(((((

You got a long way to go before old is a factor. |

I have no huge interest in getting anywhere close to a 200+yd 6i. For me, the interest is consistent iron distances and dispersion. I'd take a bit more length I guess, but when my 145-155yd club is the 8i, I feel like that is a happy land for me. If I need an accurate 150yd 9i to play a course, I've left the reason I play the game and have gotten too competitive to have a day job and family.
I'm not the guy on the tee box asking everyone what they hit (presumably for comparison). If I hit a 7i, Mark hits a 9i, and Bill hits a cranked (for him) 6i, but Bill is the closest to the pin, and the rest of us are miles off, who cares what who hit. I do find it amazing that he steps up to a pin 230yds away and 6i is the choice. I'd be pulling a 3hy or - depending on the hole, I'd be pulling a short iron and laying up. |

It was downhill and downwind, and the greens were firm so they were landing them a bit short (although this one stopped fairly quickly as I recall), so maybe it was playing like 205 or something? Yes, that is still big, but more understandable...

That is impressive- 230 yards would put me somewhere between a 3 iron and a hybrid. If it's a par 3 then I would need to ask myself why the Hell I am playing the tips.
6 iron for me is 185 yards. Could probably add 10-15 yards if I tried to come out of my shoes which incidentally Justin Thomas nearly does. |

If it's a par 3... If I'm on a 230yd par 3, something very bad has happened. |

The elevation of the course added about 15% more distance to there shots.
