Hello Golfers your thoughts on, The penalties, in the form of a pair of two-stroke penalties, came when a television viewer emailed the LPGA, informing them that Lexi Thompson had misplaced her ball on short putt on the 17th hole nearly 24 hours earlier in the third round.

Should have been only a two stroke penalty.

Viewers should not be able to call in on any event period. Lexi won that major.

You gotta be careful how you mark your balls.
Just sayin.. I don't know why she marked her ball that way. It did not give her any advantage that I could see, and with it being such a short putt, I'd be shocked it if was intentional. If a penalty was to be issued, it should only be two strokes. There was no advantage gained, she didn't do it intentionally, and she signed her scorecard believing that it was 100% correct. Let's back this up a bit.. if the armchair ref would have reported this during the round, and the LPGA idiots would have reviewed and assessed her the penalty during the round, she could have signed her scorecard with the penalty assessed, avoided the extra two stroke penalty, and very well could have won the tournament. It's a huge mess the LPGA made. They deserve every bit of the repercussion they face on Facebook and Twitter. |

I have an issue with the penalty being called in by a viewer and have a bigger issue with the second penalty. To me common sense has to be used.

The upcoming rules changes will eliminate arm chair referees. Thankfully! I encourage everyone to read them. http://www.golfchannel.com/new../

I have noticed previously that the ladies were pretty sloppy in marking their golf balls. I actually made the comment once that someday one of them would be penalized for it. Having said that, Lexi deserves the first penalty. The second one though while not really deserved, was simply a proper application of the rules. The officials HAVE NO CHOICE. Professionals are playing for so much money and the consequences are so far reaching that they have to apply the rules very rigidly in order to ensure fairness and equity for all the players.
I hope the governing bodies simply refuse to accept any phone calls, emails or texts regarding the rules. They have rules officials that will do their best to ensure equity in the application of the rules and we move on. I especially hate that one can come back a day later and apply a penalty. If there is no intent, once the round is complete the round is over. Period! |
