I play in about 5 or 6 charity tournaments every year.  I've never been on a team that has been in the top three and those guys probably don't want me on their team anyway!  Well, if you've ever played one of these tournaments then you understand the basic strategies in four person best ball.

Generally, we get the higest handicapper to play first with the best handicapper playing last with the hopes of having a good ball in play before we get to the fourth golfer so the "best golfer" can "go for it" or really let one loose.  There may be other strategies used.

Yesterday I was invited to play in a tournament and for the first time ever I, yes me, the 15 handicapper, was the best player on the team.  What a nightmare!  It is a totally different feeling when the other 3 are looking at YOU as the "go to guy".  I've never felt pressure like that before.  This wasn't like playing against your weekly buddies... I'm comfortable with that pressure but this was different.

Not fun when about 75% of the shots played were yours.  Not fun when over and over, 3 tee shots don't hit the fairway and they are looking at you to put one in the middle.  Not fun when 3 approach shots go errant and they want you to put it on the green.  I learned a little bit about myself in that I was actually able to perform under that pressure for the most part - I had my share of mishits also.

Well we ended up with a 66, 6 under (53 won it).  Thank God we were able to buy mulligans!  We did have fun, after all, we were playing golf and raising money for a good cause but I think next time I'm going to ask some questions before accepting the next invite!
