Okay heres the question your off the green not even on the fringe and you decide to putt. You get it close and then you sink the putt for par. Does the putt count as a putt or does it count as an up and down?

7/15/2009 11:50:00 AM Of course it is an up and down !! Putts off the putting surface aren't putts, they're chips. |

7/15/2009 11:18:29 AM You stated "not even on the fringe"...Let's say you are on the fringe in 2 on a par 4 and you putt it close and tap in, it is an up and down. If you had holed out the first putt, you would record a birdie with NO putts. Alot of people like to count that stroke as a putt to help their putting stats but they shouldn't. Now if they counted the missed putt from the fringe as a putt in regards to putting stats, they would be consistent at least but they would then have to record it as a GIR when if fact it wasn't a GIR per the rules.irdie with NO putts. 7/15/2009 8:31:06 AM it's an up and down for the same reason everyone else has stated. a stroke from off the putting green is not a putt. putts only count from the green or those extenuating circumstances. |

7/14/2009 2:49:16 PM Can't vote with the question. There is only "ONE" putt involved here. Doesn't matter where you use the putter. It is only a putt when on the green. |

7/13/2009 9:15:02 PM The dictionary definition of a putt is, " a golf stroke made on a putting green to cause the ball to roll into or near the hole," with the operative words being "on a putting green." |

7/13/2009 8:11:13 PM What about a Sand Save. If you fail to get out on your first attempt and hole your second sand shot. Is that 2 sand saves? |
