Alignment
Today's tip has to do with alignment. Most amatuers unknowingly have a hard time lining up their shots. Many a double bogey can be avoided just by following a couple steps so that your shots start out having a chance of finding the target. I mean honestly, how many times have you hit a ball that you felt was perfect but it was just right or left a good 20 feet? We all have, and I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't a swing flaw but just an easily fixable set up flaw. Follow these steps to straighter shots.
1. Stand behind the ball before you set up to your shot and look to where you want to aim. This will give you an idea as to the exact line you want your ball to fly on.
2. Before setting up, find a mark, broken tee, divot, blade of grass, etc., a couple inches in front of your ball that is on the line between your ball and your target that you determined in Step 1.
3. When setting up, make sure your feet are parallel to the imaginary line you just created and that your club face is on line with whatever mark/object you decided to use in Step 2.
4. Trust your line.
5. Make a confident swing.
(Imagine the arrow as a broken tee or a divot in front of you)
This simple tip can save you an extra 2-10 shots a round based on how often you're misaligned. I have to admit, it is a staple of my pre-shot routine that I use on every single shot in my rounds including my putts.
Best,
Richter
