Well, I just turned 60 in December and I have been playing golf since I was 10 and have yet to make a hole in one! I would like to hear from those of you that have played more than 50 years without one, so you can make me feel better! My closest shot was 8-1/2 inches on a 119 yard par 3 with a PW last year.

4/17/2009 3:20:02 PM So...I just got back from 18 holes at Airways golf course. At the turn we stopped at the clubhouse and they were talking with an older gentleman who just got his first hole-in-one. We go out to play the back nine and on #13 (par 3) my wife (who started playing about 3yrs ago) pops it in the air hits the green and it rolls about 20 feet and drops in the cup. I asked her how it feels to have a hole in one and she says, "I don't know, I'm not that big a golfer." She shoots around 120. Go figure. the back nine and on #13 (par 3) my wife (who started playing about 3yrs ago) pops it in the air hits the green and it rolls about 20 feet and drops in the cup. 4/17/2009 10:08:54 AM a guy I worked with a few years back had been playing for about 5 yrs. In that time he had 2 holes in one. To this day he has not broken 100. Thats luck and nothing else. Luck is still the biggest part of it.t of it. |

4/16/2009 7:47:44 PM Uhh, judging from your profile photo I doubt you're ever gonna get one. In fact, I'd get on out there and play during the next few days if I were you while you have the chance! LOL! My closest is 18". But like others on here, I'm more total score oriented. I have some goals there. A hole in one isn't really a goal of mine at all. It may happen on the next par 3 I hit, or maybe never. It is just a matter of luck and the odds are, it will never happen. Yeah, it would be a thrill. But if I hit a hole in one and shot a round total of 105 the thrill of the hole in one would be somewhat lost. I would much rather start shooting consistently in the 80's, get my handicap down to below 15 and break 80 sometimes on my short(5100 yd) "home" course. Anyway, good luck! I hope you get one!. 4/16/2009 2:45:29 PM My grandfather Joe Mondak had to wait until age 78 to get his first ace. He used a 7 iron from 96 yards from the gold tees on the par 3 13th hole at Butler's Lakeside. It occurred during his league playing. The closest I ever came was 1 foot while a sophomore in high school during team practice after school.playing. 4/16/2009 9:40:26 AM came to within 8 inches in a scramble tournament. I won closest to the pin, so it wasn't a complete loss. |

4/15/2009 3:18:31 PM Closest I've ever gotten was about 6 inches. The ball almost went in on the fly. It was a 155 yard par 3, 7 iron. That's it. Never got it within 3 feet after that. Been playing for about 4 years now. |

4/14/2009 12:33:48 PM Never happened to me either. The closest was about 2 feet... But I'd be more thrilled by breaking 90, and then 80 than making a hole in one. Breaking 90 or 80 is a matter of skill. You have to play well during an entire round! Having a hole is one is a matter of skill, but also first and foremost a matter of luck on one single shot. I don't know, it's not something I care about that much.ll during an entire round! Having a hole is one is a matter of skill, but also first and foremost a matter of luck on one single shot.
