Am I the only one that thinks charging a rider fee for someone that is not playing golf is absurd? The other day I booked a round of golf at a golf club for one player, online for a $25.00 greens fee which also included the cart and tax. This is a local course open to the public. When I arrived, I paid my $25.00 fee and when my Wife came out to the cart with me, the lady behind the counter ran out and told me there would be a fee for my wife to ride even though she was not playing. I asked how much and she said $15.00. I would have payed $5.00 but I thought $15.00 was outrageous. I told the girl if my wife was not with me, I would still be the only playing person in the cart so what was the difference. The manager would not concede, so I took my money back and went and played at a better course, semi private, for $29.00 and no rider fee for my wife. How many people would pay the rider fee and why?

2/8/2013 6:18:36 AM The golf courses charge a rider fee for many reasons. 1. If it is a single player or a threesome the other space in the golf car could be used, for another person to join the group another golf car would have to be used (more gas, electricity etc) 2. Liability, everyone on the golf course needs to be signed in, if rider's are on the golf course without the knowledge of the golf professional staff and something happens there may be legal issues. 3. Control. Everyone who uses a facility is subject to the fees, terms and conditions of that facility. If golf courses let anyone and everyone ride in the golf cart without control the course would have many extraneous people on the course, they could be struck by a ball etc. 4. Many times "a rider" is just an excuse to play without paying, we see riders playing out of their partners bag on a regular basis. 5. Children want to be on the course to drive the golf car, many a golf car ends up in a lake because of underage or untrained drivers usi |

6/3/2009 5:06:54 AM Rider fees suck! But most courses look at this as a way to add revenue. I don't blame you for leaving, I would have too! It should have been explained upfront so you didn't waste valuable playing time trying to get on. trying to get on. |

5/1/2009 9:34:56 AM That is outrageous if the greens fees are only $25. Most places don't care, but some are out for every dime they can get which can hurt the game. When my son was little he like to go and just ride in the cart, if they charged me I didn't play there anymore. Now he palys and loves it and they get extra money. If he wouldn't have enojyed going so much, maybe he wouldn't be a golfer now.n the cart, if they charged me I didn't play there anymore. Now he palys and loves it and they get extra money. 3/2/2009 7:37:00 PM Alisa rides with me 90% of my rounds at no charge. But the thing is Bus is that she rides with me during twilight hours in the evenings. If it were at peak, or A.M. times, and another paying golfer could be paired with me I can see it. The course has to pay for gas and or cart charging,so that is thier justification. Most courses here have a "walking fee" and a "riding fee". Even if you are a single who has paid to ride, and are playing with a single who is walking he cannot ride with the you unless he has paid to ride. Unfortunate, but true. Good post Bus.ld be paired with me I can see it. The course has to pay for gas and or cart charging,so that is thier justification. Most courses here have a "walking fee" and a "riding fee". 2/28/2009 5:11:00 PM Courses have varying policies. Some courses don't allow non-golfers on the course at all. I have local courses charing $28 for a cart whether there is one or two in the cart, golfer of non-golfer. My home course charges $12 per golfer and the non-golfer rider is free. I agree the $15 is excessive and $5 is acceptable. Now, if you wanted to thrill your bride, you should have told the lady behind the counter that you would pay ANY fee to have your wife ride along with you. You get to play golf and your wife is happy about it!My home course charges $12 per golfer and the non-golfer rider is free. I agree the $15 is excessive and $5 is acceptable. 2/28/2009 8:00:25 AM I agree that the rider fee is high. But you are lucky where I play non-golfers, or non-players are not allowed on the course (and these are public courses). Something about possibly being hit by an errant ball, or getting hurt on the course (Insurance). I would love to bring my girlfriend out for the day, but no go......errant ball, or getting hurt on the course (Insurance). I would love to bring my girlfriend out for the day, but no go...... |

2/27/2009 5:40:22 PM The rider fee Is B.S.... I walk but i would like to get a cart from time to time and bring my daughter with me ( shes 4) so we can spend time together (and she might like the game.) But most places charge for her....$18 is the norm around here per person for a cart. I think carts should be in the price for player only..if no one is playing with you whats the diff, the seats open so why not let a GF or child ride and watch....You might get another Greens fee out of it someday.harge for her....$18 is the norm around here per person for a cart.
