It is that time of the year when we make our resolutions for the next year, and I resolve to work on my golf game. Over the past seven years or so I have neglected my own game through lack of practice, play, and competition. The neglect came because my personal golf game dropped way down my list of priorities. Well I am ready to move my game back up towards the top of the list, I am tired of playing like %$#&.
I am going to work on the fundamentals of my swing, improve my mental approach, play more golf, get in better golf shape, and find some other golfers who like to compete and who are fun to play with. Basically, I am going to take the advise and instruction that I give my students.
I have begun by working on my physical shape. I have been using my Golfgym and swinging a broom (the broom is very heavy and works on my conditioning and flexibility). This next week I am going to start hitting some balls and playing some holes. Then I will start working on my scoring ability, which will allow me to play some golf.
I have blogged this information because I want it to be written down so I am accountable. It is very easy for us golf pros to come with excuses for not playing and practicing. I will post updates and let you know how I am progressing. I am also going to post this blog on Stracka.com. Stracka is a free golf social network were you can post blogs and forums, track scores, and interact with other golfers. Again, I want this in public so that I am held accountable.
If you are working hard on your game, let me know how you are coming along. Good luck to you and me!

1/12/2009 2:27:30 PM Your point well taken, but, first my New Years Resolution is that my health returns to normacy. As for my Golf game, Breaking 80 for 18 holes is my second goal, hitting G.I.R. at a higher rate is my third goal, working on my putting from 33 putts per round to under 28.5 PPR. As for Stracka, to all it has been a pleasure being able to talk golf with all of you, it you guys that keep me coming back, you are full of information suggestions and history that I enjoy reading and commenting. This forum even if there were no points, is something that is refreshing, we are all either assiring professionals, and/or amatuers that needed this type of forum. My hope is that all of you have a great 2009.third goal, working on my putting from 33 putts per round to under 28.5 PPR. 1/12/2009 8:02:40 AM I've been working out a little to improve my flexibility and core strength. I've thrown away all the swing thoughts except 1, and that's to feel the weight of the club. I've placed particular importance on a pre-shot routine, which is something that I've never really cared about in the past. I'm dedicated to breaking 90 this year. And BTW, I've yet to really break 100.ce on a pre-shot routine, which is something that I've never really cared about in the past. I'm dedicated to breaking 90 this year. And BTW, I've yet to really break 100. |

1/11/2009 3:29:08 PM Great resolutions! I know how hard it is for teaching pros to work on their game. I know many golf pros who have all but abandonned their game. As you said, when you're a pro, you certainly don't want to perform badly when you're on the course. But how can someone perform well when they can only play a few times a year! Touring pros can at least focus on their game, but then their paycheck depends on how well they perform, which must be extremely stressful. I'm sure that you'll achieve your goal! Wish you plenty of good time on the course :) to perform badly when you're on the course. But how can someone perform well when they can only play a few times a year! 1/10/2009 11:20:26 PM I think to stay limber and stretch every day is important. Core strength exercises are also very important. I am not very big, but I hit the ball a mile b/c I can turn well and get some great club head speed.d speed. |
